Question Question on vaccs

Ok...now that I'm done with all the pregnant questions, on to the next phase!
I have CD Antitoxin and I also have CD/T Toxoid on hand. Gretta has never been vaccinated as far as I know...certainly not in the past 4 months.

What do I use on Gretta? (momma)
When do I do it? What's the dose for pygmy?

What do I use on babies?
When and what dose?

Thanks! :baby04:

The antitoxin is only used if they are already sick

If she's never had it before, give her 2 ML of the CD&T vaccine, and three weeks later give her 2 ML again.
I dont know how far along she is but it would be good to time it so she gets the 2nd dose about 3-4 weeks before kidding, but its not all that critical

It will just give the kids some immunity until they are old enough for their shots

Same dosage for the pygmy and the babies, same schedule.

I do my lambs at about 4-6 weeks for the first one

From then on they only need 1 yearly booster of 2 ML , one time

Those are given SQ

Bearfootfarm, she already had the babies yesterday...so should I wait and give it all at the same time?

OK, did she get the CDT when she was pregnant? If so she is fine. It is only a once a year shot.
The mom's need it 2-4 weeks before the babies are due, that way the babies get some. IF mom did NOT get it then
Baby needs it at 2 weeks, then 4 weeks later, then 4 weeks later AGAIN. They have to have them three times if mom did not get it.
If mom DID get it, then it is babies at 2 weeks, then again 4 weeks later and that is all.

The only time you give the CD Antitoxin is if lets say one of the goats gets into something and eats like WAY to muck. It helps kill any toxins that would kill them. (I believe I said that right)

No..she didn't get the CDT when she was pregnant. So I give it to the babies at 2 weeks and then 2 times after that. What about Gretta? Should I give it to her now or wait and do it in 2 weeks with the kids....Also..I just had a thought..Don't the kids need tetanus b4 disbudding and doesn't that have to be done b4 2 weeks?

It's not too critical when she gets it as long as she's not pigging out on grain.

The tetanus shot for the disbudding is the antitoxin that gives them short term immunity, and is different than the CD&T vaccine that gives long term immunity

If youre going to disbud at 2 weeks, I'd wait for the CD&T vaccine until later since they dont really need it so much until they start eating more, and you have the CD antitoxin if they DO show symptoms

Ive never heard of having to give them 3 doses though. The label says 2 , 21-28 days apart
