New Buck Kid

Here's my new pygmy buck kid that will be my herd sire. He's 8 weeks old. I got him Saturday. He is still scared to death of me. He's picked at his grain and hay and I offered him a bottle and he took 3oz twice today. So we are getting somewhere. Now I have a kid to keep me busy until my two does kid!!

Nice looking boy.

Do most people feed grain that early?

I dont ever wean before 10 weeks unless I have to. I start offering grain around 6 weeks. They continue getting the bottle until 12 weeks old though. And the kids that stay on their mommas get the grain with them. And I dont wean them until 12 weeks either unless I have to.

This morning I put his grain in the dish and he started chowing down. He didn't want the bottle so he must feel confident enough to eat. I noticed he is starting to pick at his hay more. He's still scared of me though. Not as scared....but still nervous.

Wow, yours start on a grain at 6 weeks! Mine start chowing on it when they are 3 weeks. They won't eat lots but they do nibble at it. I give 2 twos a normal mug of gain and it is almost gone the next morning. But then again mine had 2 month kids who just pig out on in the next pen where they can see!

It takes my bottle babies longer to want the grain, they don't see their momma's eating it so they don't know they can eat it. But the dam raise kids start nibbling early on. All of my goats have hay available to them all the time also.
