Oster Golden A-5 Clippers - thoughts?

Getting ready for my first set of clippers - taking some Boers to show for the first time this year.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Oster A-5 Golden?? Good? Bad?

They cost $100 at the local TSC. Should I take back and get something else?

Thanks!!

Personally, I think they're too weak to clip a goat easily. I have Oster cordless Power Pro and it works very well. They are nice for trimming up small areas that don't have thick hair like feet, around horns, and touch ups. Others may have different opinions. You might want to try them out first.
How's that silly buck doin?

I wish that clippers would that cheap at our farmstores! I looked at one today that cost $360.oo!!! I thought that was a little to much! I have a cheap $30 walmart dog clippers. They work fine but I would like another one as it gets very hot after half a doe!!

Too small to body clip a large number of animals, okay for trimming. All the boer shows I've been to, the goats are shown natural, no body clip. In that regard, the A5 would be fine for you, as you'd only need to do some clean up.

I've had great results with mine but I don't clip boers with them. I clip dairy goats with them (some goats get clipped more than once every year). I've also used them to clip our mini horses. I have to bathe the bucks before I clip them to get the best results but I like the A5 better than the older, bigger, shearing-type clippers we used to have. I can do the body clip and the trimming with the same clippers and I just switch blades to do udders, ears and feet. I've dropped them numerous times on a concrete floor and forgotten them outdoors overnight and they still run perfectly.
