What do you feed your goats?

We grow our own rabbit food, and plan to do the same for the goats (when we get them ). What do your goats prefer? Do they need a mineral block to supplement hay?
Thanks!

Are you going to raise milk or meat goats?

Yes, they need minerals, but loose minerals are best.

You can feed just hay to goats, but letting them ot to browse is what is best for them. They eat pineneeds, cedar, blackberries, coralberries, all kinds of grass and clovers, oak leaves, grape leaves, etc.

You have to watch out for worms, they can kill goats. They will do best with few goats on plenty of land.

Mine are fed alfalfa hay and a grain mix which consists of mostly dry COB with sweet stuff, dairy goat pellets and BOSS added. In summer, they also get browse and pasture. They also get free choice loose goat mineral and sodium bicarb.

They all get as much alfalfa to waste as they please loose minreals made for goats not sheep as goats need much more copper than sheep. Bicarbonate soda too. They don't get much browse, whatever I bring to them.
Oh yes I do add a handful of BOSS to their feed.

Good "loose" goat minerals, they cannot get enough by licking a block. If you cannot find loose goat minerals, then use cattle or horse loose minerals. High copper is what you are looking for in your goat minerals so read tags. I use Cargill Right Now minerals for cattle. I like those better than many brands made for goats (and my goats like them too!)
