Kid Watch
Gabby is due 1/7, and she's definitely a double-, possibly a triple-wide. I have to work tomorrow, but I told DH he has to check on her before he goes anywhere, and to call our neighbor (Horse person) if there's any problems. After tomorrow, I'm off work for 5 days. whew! I'm really glad the weather is warming up here. Don't need kid-sicles, and I don't much like being cold, either. This is Gabby's 3rd or 4th kidding, but only my first. Last year she needed her 2nd kid (of trips) pulled. Let's hope she doesn't need any help, but that if she does, I'm home. DH would have no idea what to do.
I have everything I need, just gotta make sure it's all in one place. I'm sure it is, just gotta double check. And I promise to post pics!

It is her third kidding. Sh has had a single that slipped out like she was on a slide, then the triplets, second one had such a big head he could not get through(named him Cosco-spanish for hulk!) Other than that she so far has done a grand job and is a really good Momma. She is (supposedly) due the sixth or seventh but you know how they like to fool you. Call me!

Well, we've got a bigger bag, schmutz underneath her tail, a belly full of soccer players (Amazing G (dd) felt them kicking around tonight!) and she still has her ligaments. Am I right that this means a day or two?
She's bedded down in the stall for the night with Graciella, her bff, and I'll check on her once or twice tonight.
I'm sooo glad the weather has warmed up. I think God did this just for her!
I promise to call you, Trish!

I am going through the same thing. I have a doe due any day and last time she kidded I came home to a dead kid (either stillborn or she didn't clean it off and suffocated). I am keeping an extra close watch on her and she has had goop under her tail all week. I have been doing several checks each night this week and of course, still no babies. I have today off so hopefully this is the day!! She looks huge, I am thinking maybe trips but atleast twins...

This morning there's more schmutz, she's more sunken around the tail, and she's pinker and poofier around her vulva. Babies are napping. Do they go off feed just before? Her appetite is still good.

Depends on the doe. I had one that would eat between kids. Hope it's soon!

Uhh, heck I think Gabby would eat while she kids if she had her way! LOl, she is a trooper. She usually does a lot of stomping and digging, up and down, up and down, and lots of assuming the position before she kids. If she gets nasty to Gracie, it is getting to be time. I always put Gracie in with her too and when she got close she would get territorial and kinda mean to her. She always schmutz's up before but that could mean today or next week.

Painfully, no. I think she may wait until I'm at work Friday night, just for grins. She's got milk, a loverly full bag, and 2 durned ligaments that aren't going away because a watched pot and all. It is getting more difficult for her to get on the milk stand, and I can see that the babes have dropped--her flanks are soo hollow.
Her teats aren't plugged--I managed to squirt milk on my jacket three times! She has a doubled teat on her left side, and both halves produce dee-licious milk.
I'm going out here in a few to check again. It would be really nice to have some news for y'all.

Okay, a few minutes turned into "Help me with my homework," and I just got in from finishing the chores dh wouldn't do ('cuz scratch grain for chooks is confusing ) I can feel just a smidge of ligaments right up near her tailhead/hook bones.
How fast does all this usually progress once things get started? I know that pushing for an hour with no babe is an emergency, but I also know that horses go from 1st contraction to a foal on the ground in 45 minutes! Will I have time to think my way through things if they get wonky? I should if goat birthings are more similar to cows than horses.
I'm headed back out in another 2-2 1/2 hours. Do we all sleep on the couch in our clothes?

Ligaments are G O N E. Woot!! She's stretching out like a Tennesee Walker, nibbling at her hips, pink and poofy around her hoo, and I can't get near the cuddlebug. I may be taking a lawn chair and my knitting to the barn in a while (after I put fresh batteries in the camera!)

Bucks!! Lots of happy campers! lol
Of course, I'll be happy as long as they arrive healthy and we're all in one piece.

Any pictures yet? I am getting so ummm jealous. I have two girls that I swear they are crossing their legs. I have to leave Friday Morning and I will not be home until late Saturday night. I am SO worried that they will decide to wait until then. I do have my daughters boyfriend coming to goat sit for me. The problem ins I really have no idea if he would know what to do if something goes wrong. There is NO ONE else around. I am the one every one call for help. Last year if I was not there for one of these girls we would of lost mom. The baby doe was stuck. All I was seeing was a nose. Her legs were stuck under her pelvis. It was everything I had to pull that baby. But I did and we had a beautiful doe and then fast as ever we had a buck. All three were great. They were 10# also to boot. That is rather larger for Cashmere babies.

AAAANNNDD On The Teat To My Right, Weighing In At Nine Pounds, 13 Ounces.....
T H E I N C R E D I B L E B U L K!!!! Ding, Ding!!
Here he's just getting his feet. That's my chore boot nest to him for scale. Dude's knee-high!
He's on the left, sis is on the right. She's 6# 12 oz.
She may lack his bulk, but she's got girlie-girl to spare.
He's got a lot of white on his left side.
Doting Mama
My profuse and profound apologies for keeping you all in suspenders, but uploading 50 pics on dial-up took for-ev-er! And then the *family* wanted dinner, can you believe it? Heathens!
I remember reading about putting something on the ear to unfold it. Li'l girl has one that wants to stay folded. Suggestions?
They have a large dog kennel to get into with a lamp safely fastened in it for warmth, but they seem to prefer Mama right now. DH picked up some sweatshirts for them at KMart, but they look kinda big. Today. Tomorrow they'll be too small, bet?
I checked on them a bit ago, and they seem warm and content next to mom. No one is crying, and mom's not engorged, so I'm thinking they've fine-tuned the groceries. I'll slip out there overnight to check on them, too. How long do I need to do that?
I'm gonna go grab a nap here in a bit, and review what I've learned today so that I can do it all again next month. But by then, I'll have my wool socks knitted, you can be sure!
ETA: I did the smell-the-head thing, and one side smelled bucky, the other doe-y. Battin' a thousand!
