Newborn with odd leg

Had a Nigerian Dwarf buckling born here about 36 hours ago. Normal delivery other than the fact it was brutally cold out (-20 with the wind chill). I brought mom and kid inside and baby ate, everything seemed fine. This morning I noticed he is still holding his right leg back out behind him, sorta dragging it when he walks. I messed with it and it's a little stiff but pliable, definitely not broken, it's just kinda sticking out there. He was a twin so maybe it was kinked funny in utero and will eventually be ok? I'm needing reassurance that it's not some disease I'm forgetting. He's alert and bright and eating well. TIA

We've had that happen before - it usually sorts itself out within a few days. I wouldn't worry yet.

First off congrats on the little boy! Who is he out of? Your doe picked a wicked cold day to kid!
Yes, this should right itself over the next few days. I've gone through this and what I do is place the kid on a board as therapy to give them a good surface to place those bad legs on. I would bet he will steadily improve.

When/if mine have joint issues, I give them BoSe 1/2 cc SQ X 3 days plus a vitamin E gel cap each day x 3 days squished into their mouth. if the kid is particularly small, give it 1/4 cc instead of 1/2cc BoSe.

This would be for selenium defieciency but i have found it just strengthens newborn kid joints in general if they are wiggle-wobbly and odd.

There are additional links at the botton of the above link also.

Vitamin E w/selenium over the counter, poke with pin or bite end off, squirt in mouth.

Thanks everyone. The little tyke is toddling around much better. His leg is straightening out and he's attempting to use it. I believe he will be just fine.

Lynn, he is from Candy and Valentino, blue eyes, and the most colorful kid born here on my farm to date.

I bet he's a beaut - glad to hear he's starting to use the leg. You should see continual improvement.

It was pitiful watching him drag himself around, but I'm happy to say he is now 75% improved!

Had the same thing and unfortunately we started calling him Peg-Leg and it stuck. Now I have a wether named Peg-Leg who doesn't have a peg leg anymore.
