Worming a Pregnant Doe?
What is a good wormer for a pregnant doe?
I was told SafeGuard was safe to give a pregnant doe by someone else, but I thought I would check here first.

It still seems to work around here.
But there aren't to many goats around here either so that may be why.

Depends how pregnant. If she just conceived - better to wait. After at least one full cycle has gone by and you know the embryo has implanted, I'm pretty sure you can worm with Cydectin, Ivermectin or your Safeguard.
We worm pre-breeding to make sure we don't have to worm again until 100 days when we do our annual Ivomec Plus for flukes and stuff.

How pregnant?? I worm pregnant does with Cydectin(orally). Safeguard is unlikely to get anything but tapeworms....especially in warm Florida.

You need to fecal and figure out what you are worming for, and what works in your area. A fecal sample is $10 at the vet, just pick up some fresh poop in a ziplock and run it in. Did you worm before she was bred? It's highly unlikely that Safeguard will do much of anything for your goats living in the south.
Do you have symptoms of diarrhea, anemia, thinness that you are saying she needs to be wormed?
I also worm with the cattle pouron, Cydectin, 1cc per 25 pounds and give it orally. During the winter because it's the only time my milkers are dry I use Ivermectin plus, 1cc per 30 pounds orally for liver flukes and lungworms, orally. I do not test for these two things, it was new information coming from my vet on tests ran in a boer herd in my county, with snails as a new pest to us this year, we kind of figured it was coming. She's due end of January.
We wormed her before sending her to the male.
As far as needing worming, her eyelids are looking a little pale, not white, but not as pink as normal. The other 2 also look like they need it as well, same paler than normal eyelids.

bob do you have a mineral with enough copper in it? copper deficiency can show in anemia.
what did you worm her with and did you repeat 10 to 14 days later? have you done fecal check to see if the wormer you used was still effective?

How will a fecal sample do any good if they are pregnant? didn't you all tell me the worms don't expel eggs while the goat is pregnant.

steff i did not say that, i don't believe in parasites having intelligence and only releasing eggs if the environment is in perfect condition for their offspring. they will and do shed eggs anytime. you might have lesser numbers because the goats don't ingest so many eggs and/or larvae if it is too cold outside.
try, and do a fecal check now and than come back and tell us what you found.

Steff, you don't live in Florida, we don't have winters like you do. Fecal, checking for anemia, diarrhea and unthriftyness.
Bob, if she is due in January than there is no harm to the kids by worming. If you have snails on your property or any standing water, choose Ivermectin Plus so you not only get the 4th stage HC that Cydectin does not get but also liverluke and lungworm protection. Then use Cydectin as your wormer the day she kids. With three scheduled wormings with your adult does. Before being bred, 100 days bred for liverflukes and lungworms if you need it, and the day they kid, it will go along ways toward helping your milkers and kids. Make sure you are ontop of your mineral needs, does nutritional defficient in copper and selenium simply have higher worm burdens than those who are.
Worming 14 days afterwards yet again isn't needed if you simply fecal, worm, then refecal at 7 days, if you have less eggs, you have less adult worms, so why refecal?
Now the 3 times in a row is excellent on incoming stock while in quaranteen, especially those with questionalbe worming history, and for keeping others resistant worms out of your barns and pastures.
IF you don't have lungworm or liverfluke property, than use your Cydectin right now on the herd, with her leaving the property to be bred it's pretty stressfull, plus she just brought you back onto the property the new worms from the place she visited. Make sure and worm the whole crew. Try to keep them out of their pens for 12 hours after worming, so they don't poop eggs and larve out into the barn or pasture enviornment. Get a buck! Vicki
