To all you La Mancha crossers!
Have you ever had a kid that had a La Mancha ear and a Nubian ear? (or swiss breed?) I think it would look very weird but some what cool. I have seen when 1 kid has LM ears and the other normal Swiss/Nubian ears.

As many La Mancha crosses as I've seen, all have had ears that matched. I have seen litters where some had small ears and others, larger ears. I suppose it has to do with where the genetecs fall, but each goat has just one set of genes.

I've never seen that.
I have seen a kid with incredibly long elf ears...they were almost half the normal length of an airplace ear, but were elf shaped. LaMancha dam, Nubian sire.
I've had litters where some were elfed and some erect ears. Shiloh's twin (pictured in the LM/N thread), Genevieve, has beautiful Pendulous ears...whereas Shiloh has elf ears. Which is why Gen was kept and Shiloh sold. lol Their dam and granddam both have elf ears, but they are 1/2, 3/4 and 7/8 Nubians.

No, always seen even ears. And I've had a lot of Lamancha crosses born.
The biggest variety I've ever seen in siblings ear types is Oreo's set of triplets from this past January. The one buckling had long ears but they were folded longways and stuck out from his head a bit. The other buckling had elf ears like his mother. The doeling had normal Boer ears, just slightly short.
Oreo's litter sister, Cream Puff, bred to the same buck, had triplets with all elf ears. Same exact percentage of Lamancha. All these kids are 3/4 Boer, 1/8th Alpine, and 1/8th Lamancha.

Wow! She does look like Oreo!!
Here she was as a kid. The black specks in her hair didn't show up until she was older.

That's pretty amazing. Gennie was 1/2 LaMancha, 1/4 Nubian, 1/4 Boer and had the elf ears. her kids had long or short depending on if we bred her to LM or Boer and sometimes litters had mixed ear types. Kids did not have 2 different kinds of ears though, genetics don't work that way.

I bet if you saw one with an elf ear, and a regular ear, it may have been a chimera. This is where two fertilized eggs fuse, creating a mish mosh of features and mosiac like colors. Its the reason for many of the calico and torti male cats out there.

so a chimera is two eggs fused into one being and a conjoined twin is one egg not quite divided...should have been identical twins..
interesting, I have never heard of a chimera, i will have to google...and interesting about the male calico....love this stuff...i'm a bit of a mad scientist.
