Tips on Kidding in Winter

I know the old hands with goats won't need this. But I thought maybe people new to goats or people who find themselves with does ready to pop in winter weather might get some help out of it. It's nothing fancy.

Read here if you need some ideas to get you through a winter kidding crisis.

Thanks Sher...this was timely for me. My husband and I just got done discussing if we should move our pregos goat into a heated shed to kid. This article helped my mind get back to the basics and that's what I needed because I tend to over think and over do on things. I have everything covered for a safe, comfortable and healthy kidding already and don't need to do anything else. It's the waiting that is just DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!!!

You guys are so very welcome. We were all new at goats and kidding at one time..lol..and ya never seen such a wreck as this old woman when we kidded the first time! All we had were metal hog huts and they kidded in the winter with a PILE of snow on the ground. My hubby scooped snow all around the hut and over it..lol it was just like an igloo.

We bedded it down and she had those kids just fine. Just make sure they get dried off..but to me..the biggest thing is getting a good long drink from momma. That first milk is like a miracle in a teat..lol.

So anyway..enjoy those girls and their babies. Thank God there is a place like Homesteadingtoday that is here 24/7 with a lot of people ready to help.

Good luck! Sher
