Just got a phone call for goats - Must read!

I got a phone call just a while ago. It was one of those relay operators for the deaf. I've had them call before so I'm a little familiar with the way that works. They said they wanted a goat for their son as a gift and wanted to know what I had for sale and to please email them back right away. Well I'm thinking, if they have my number and know I have goats for sale, why didn't they just email me in the first place after looking at my sales page? But I replied that I would email them right away and I did. Well, here's the email from me with their reply. I left the name that they used so you can all be aware.

(What I sent)

Hello,
All the goats I have for sale are on my webpage with pictures and prices. Do you know which ones you are interested?
You are welcome to come see them all if you'd like.
I am on DSL and I'm connected to the internet almost all the time. I also check my email several times a day so you can email me with any questions and you can be sure to get an answer very soon.
So let me know which ones you like and thank you for calling!

Those scammers have stooped to a new low unless it's actually a deaf scammer. The phone number that showed on my caller ID was 216-416-0033, This is the Cleveland, Ohio area.

And notice the goat they want to reserve...KMiller - that's ME! Ma-a-a-aaa!

I emailed them back:
I'm sorry but I won't sell a goat to anyone who has not seen them first. And I need to know where you live so I know that the goat will have a proper home. Please send me your address and a picture of where the goat will be living.
Thank you

Haven't heard back from them. I wonder why??

I know! I was sure that you wouldn't appreciate it. I'm just wondering how they went about doing this using a Cleveland (possibly) service. Is there any way to report them?

Good Catch. I had similar scammers when I had a litter of puppies advertized last year. One thing that I thought was strange is that I said in my ad that I will not ship ~ they said they would have their shipping company contact me. But this is beyond low~geesh!!!!

well, it's really not that hard to spot these scams. good for a laugh though. I do wish that they would email you back. I think I would play with their heads for a little longer. but, I'm sick and in the winter months, a little board. lol

Other than the obvious scam of the overdraft part, and the deaf part is just too weird. Something similar happened on Nubian Talk. We all got, likely via ADGA, similar emails. The guy wasn't deaf but he was from Croacia and his emails were strange like the one above because it was from an email program that turned his language into English. His shipper information was actually his son who spoke English and picked up the doe. He has now purchased 3 other milkers from me in the past 3 years and makes cheese in New York. I deal effeciently with folks who contact me, I ask for full payment for the doe via paypal. Unless picked up at the farm all shipping costs are the responsiblity of the purchaser. Are you sure the call wasn't because of a language barrier and not that they were deaf? Also I did recieve via Paypal because he paid with a credit card, an over amount to pay for room and board of the goat, which I refunded part of an gave to the son when he picked up the does. So although this person is likely scamming you, remember that not all people do business exactly like we do. I now deal directly with the mans son, who has 2 more milkers on deposit for my April kiddings. Vicki

I'm willing to work with anyone but this is too obvious.
I do prefer to do the old "cash n carry" kind of sales.

It has become very common recently for people to go the route of Deaf person scams, so you can't call and talk to them I guess , but with them using a relay system thats' a new one on me.

I get at leat three of these a year. They are very obvious with the wording these people use. My DH also got one for a truck he has for sale. The first E-mail sounded norma couple odd things but not to bad, but then the reply well... That was so obvious it was a scam.

Yes when talking with potential buyer you can get all the info you need to make a good decision. I am sure there are some people out tere that fall for tese scams......

Watch out for any correspondance that sounds like English is a second language, spelling is really off, and focuses on sending/wiring you a check. And does not ask specific questions on your stock.

I can't find it now, but read a website where the lady actually played along with the scammer up to the point of their sending her the check. She then claimed she didn't receive it, got them all upset as it was sent overnight. Then she gave them a hard time regarding cashing it, forgot to go to the bank, was sick..got drunk the night before...They were threatening her with prosecution...LOL...she finally let them in on the fact she had SCAMMED them. The phone (she gave them her cell number to call her) calls she received, the overnight FedEx, etc...she figured they spent around $150 or more on their failed scam.

That sounds like fun! I tired to play along with these scams that get my email. But when they wanna know all this info I make up half of it and I can't believe they fell for "What is your Name? Jesus." They then said "Jesus we need your full adress." I told them Heaven! I think then they thought about it and stopped emailing me!

The same thing happend over the summer to my neighbor. She had placed an add selling maltese pups in the local paper. I believe it took a few conversations for them to figure out something was fishy. Once they did they decided to see how far they could get things to progress in an attempt to bust them. I think that they received a check. Of course they told the "customer" (who was getting quite nasty by this point) that they had to wait for the check to clear before sending the pup, as they had guessed, the check was no good. They gave all of the information to the police, and were told that although it was a pretty big deal because it involved the US mail and the telephone, not to hold their breath on catching them.
I haven't heard her mention anything about it lately, I may need to see what the outcome was.
We are in Spartanburg SC.

My mom got one about some one needing to re-home their dog as they were moving overseas. Had pictures and everything. But same thing, they wanted her to send money to them to ship the dog.

I'm deaf myself and do use the relay system. I prefer email since it's more direct. Only problem that I keep running into is that my fiancee keeps saying no to some of my want-to-buy purchases...like a van that's for sale at a good price a hour or two from here!
