Ya For Family Dairy!

Well on Thursday my Aunt and Uncles cow claved! Had a single hefier calf! over 1 month early!! And she lived! I have pictures of her, but they are on the camara which is dead at the moment Well the calf only weighs about 30 pounds (no more.) and stands as tall as a full grown Nubian! She is so cute!

Well anyways the calf only drank a few litlers of the colostrum and I was in need of some, and well this cow is gonna be 7 years old this spring so she milked ALOT of colostrum! So well now I have 3 gallons of cow colostrum all in little bags for my CAE prev kids!! ya! Well I really got 5 gallons and have a friend coming to get the rest as I have now more room!

Just thought I would let everyone know I am now 1 step ahead!

Ya! I can't wait for my kids to come! The first ones are due in 20 days! (Then 74,74,76,78,93,101 days! )

Well bad news After 1 1/2 days the calf just couldn't make it They found her this morning dead in her pen They said she wouldn't take the bottle and her belly just started to blow up after each feeding. Poor girl

The mother was full holstein, and the sire was a brown Hereford

Sorry to hear about the calf - any ideas on what happened??

Glad you have lots of colostrum, and from an older cow to boot! Should be lots of good antibodies in there for your kids!

Every time they feed her, she would grunt and yell. So they were thinking something wasn't hooked up. She was born 6 weeks early so it was way to early! They also never seen any stool, so they also were thinking she diddn't have that important hole

The mother to this calf has done this for the second time and I don't think she is getting bred again. She had twin claves born 8 weeks early last year and both were dead at birth She did fine all the other times but it must be the moldy silage they have been feeding. No one will listen to the goat raiser!
