May have a new Boer buck....

A friend lost a Purebred Boer doe yesterday. She had three day old twins on her. I took the twins and am raising them. I get the buck for raising the doe. They are both just beautiful! She has a deep mahogany head and shoulders, while he is a deep read head and a large saddle on his back. I love that he is a paint.
Can't get pictures yet, still don't have a working camera, but they are just beautiful. Best thing is, since I have him this young, I can disbudd him so he can live in harmony with my dairy bucks. Junior may have competition soon. Though he looks so tiny at this point.

congrads on the kid!! So are you going to keep him as well as junior? Does this mean you will be increasing your boer herd? I will be looking for a registered fullblood boer buck in the coming year or two and was wondering if you think you'll have one for sale.

So sick! How can you just get a Boer buckling!?!?!? I have been trying to find one for almost a year now! Last year my only source had 8 does born and 1 buckling that died from fluid in his sac. And this year she kidded them and to my luck her Nubian had jumped the fence and bred all the boers! And the little bugger always did it at night and got back in his pen before she came in the morning! Well I have 2 leads now, but I really don't think I will be getting a buck this year

Yes, if he works out, I'll be keeping he and Junior. I love Juniors kids so much that I don't think I'll ever sell him as long as I have unrelated does. He linebreeds really well too, so he is easy to keep. But I need a new buck to breed to Juniors daughters out of his daughters. I kept two of those this year and had to take them elsewhere to breed them...such a pain. This new guy is a Purebred rather than a Fullblood, but if he turns out as nice as he should, I won't care.
I'll be kidding out 9 Boer does this year and as I want to keep doelings from at least two of my does, I will probably keep a few this year, as long as I get enough does to fill my 2008 doeling orders.
I only have one FB doe, so I only have FB bucklings out of her to sell. The 2008 buckling is sold if she has one.

Well, I gotta raise them both to weaning age then give the doeling back, so he isn't free....but it sure is better than a lot of prices! I contacted this friend/breeder back during breeding season and told him if he had any quality orphans or quads that needed bottled, to keep me first on the list. I wanted a really young one so I could disbudd him. This was about 4 weeks earlier than I wanted to be bottling kids, but it should be worth it.
Hope you have better luck finding a Boer buck! Are there any other breeders you could contact about bottle kids?? A lot of Boer breeders around here don't want to bother with bottle babies, so they sell them pretty cheap.

It's a good thing Junior is so good natured -- it will be interesting how he reacts to another guy among his ladies. Is he still mooning over your great pyr? Congrats on the new little paint - I can't wait to see pics!

I haven't asked any one about bottle babies for the most part they all have dairy breeds also. Even if I was to find a bottle buckling I would have to drive over 4 hours to get him, as all the breeders around me are in N.S!! But it really doesn't matter, if I do find one I may drive to get him. But the thing is all of our Boers have the same father to almost every Boer in Altanta Canada!
