what is your favorite personality among goat breeds?
We have 1 saanen & 1 toggenburg. I LOVE the saanen and wouldn't mind if the toggenburg got lost. She is a PITA, hyper, flighty, jumpy, absolutely no care about human contact other than food.
So my vote is Yes, saanen & no, toggenburg.
Which breeds or mixes do you find the most affectionate and easy to be around?

My Saanens are sweet and gentle too - very rarely are they naughty. I have a Togg wether, and he is quite the cuddle bunny, along with the Saanen/Nubian wether, who is a big moose, but very affectionate. My Alpine doe is also affectionate, but she can be a real brat at times, as can her SaanenX daughter! The Nigies vary, depending on how much handling they've had. I have an elderly doe who is just the sweetest old thing - she gives kisses and head rubs (her head, on my boots )

I adore my fainters, but I have to admit, my neighbor's Pygoras are a RIOT! They have incredible personalities, and LOTS of it.

2 NubianXBoer(50% and 75%)
1 LaBoerX(50%)
1 togg
20+ Pygmies
My LaBoer is sweet and I really love my Togg, she is smart. But my pygmies are the clowns. I like the fact too that I can sit and handle them. They are so affectionate. If I ask for a kiss I get one. I have an entire play yard, teeter-totters,stc... They are all really a blast.

We have three goats that we got from Emily.
1. Alpine, named Orange, so when we milk, we say we are going to squeeze the goat. She is the queen of our little herd. Very calm, but in charge. Loves routine.
2. Nubian, named Pumpkin, coming two years old, hasn't been successfully bred yet. If you watch JarJar Binks in one of the StarWars movies, you've seen Pumpkin. Total dippy airhead. Thinks she is part deer and will clear a four foot fence with no hesitation. But LOVES affection and cuddles. Has no idea that there are goat rules, a pecking order, human expectations, etc. Luckily, she is not noisy.
3. LaMancha, named Princess, just added to the herd. Very aloof, calm. The earth mother type. Always the last in line following us around. BUT, if you have a peanut butter cracker in your hand, you'd better be willing to share. She will climb your shirt front for a peanut butter cracker.
I love them all, and we have learned to accept their personalities and quirks. :baby04: You sure aren't going to change a goat!

I'm not so sure it's the breed as far as I'm concerned. I just enjoy some of my goats' personalities more. Melia is my most outgoing Nubian. She has a really sweet face and is the goat who knows how to open the gate if it isn't latched. Then there's Isis, my 200+ lb Boer/Spanish/Lamancha who thinks she's a dog and has tried to crawl in my lap, but she's having uterine problems and hasn't conceived in a couple falls now. She doesn't come in to milk, so she doesn't get all the attention she was used to. Then, there's Mimi, my Nubian/Nigerian cross doeling who maaas to me and jumps up on me. She's so sweet. I also appreciate that my Nubies and mixed breeds are easy to milk. I just love being with all of them.

We have 3 3/4 ober 1/4 saanen
1 1/2 above 1/2 nubian
1 ND
The Nigerian has the best personality, hands down. The Obers are nice but somewhat aloof, the nubian is very nice, very funny but so loud that she sounds like someone's murdering her. Our ND is inquisitive and friendly. She is quite likely my fav animal on the whole farm, and that's saying alot.
She was also ---- raised so she really has a nice personality naturally.

Saanens. I absolutely love their quiet, easy-going temperment.
Pooks:
You have a Saanen/Nubian wether? So do I. "Flop" looks like a pure white Nubian and is a real sweetheart. His mother was Nubian, father Saanen, and his twin brother came out looking like a purebred Saanen with the upright ears.

In our herd there is a big difference between the wethers and the does. Our two Nubian wethers are both sweethearts. The two does are both witches.
Our Saanen doe and 4 Saanen wethers are all very sweet. The wethers want to stand next to you and be petted all the time. The doe only comes around when she thinks you have treats. But when it comes to trimming hooves, shots, worming, etc, all the Saanen's are much easier to work with here.

I have one ND doe who is crazy. She's the first to escape, the hardest to catch and she's killed a 5 day old kid and a hen on two seperate occasions. But she can be sweet if you have food or if you scratch her through the fence. I have two Saanens who are as cool as cucumbers. They really, really appreciate a good rub down. And they are so easy to work with. I had a really sweet ND doe that was mellow (and more importantly never killed anyone) but she was tough to work with. And finally, I have a ND whether who is so sweet, but sad to report, I think he is dumb. >sorry<
I am far more likely to add Saanens to my herd.

Our Oberhasli does are very quiet and have gentle, affectionate personalities. Some of them tend to be impossible to fence in, possibly due to their smaller size, however. They stay in the yard, so as long as I don't have to worry about them getting in the road I don't mind. I think they must have the best personality when it comes to goat breeds.
My favorite breed overall is Alpine, however. Although a couple of our does are real PITA's, the others are very docile and have great personalities also.

I've had lamanchas, nigerians, and nubians - in that order. I love my nubians! Mine aren't particularly noisy. The noisy ones get culled!
Mine are mostly affectionate and sweet. I have a few who are more aloof - and 'noble'. I just love when something startles them and the whole herd starts tearing back 'home' through the pasture - their ears going like whirl-a-gigs, lol.
