When bucks move from eating pasture and browse to only the diet their breeders feed them, plus they are thin from rut, they go down quickly. They are put back into their lonely little pen, nothing to keep them warm, poor quality hay, sweet feed which causes urinary calculi, they are rarely wormed, rarely get their feet trimmed, they are the forgotten unless they get sick. Lots of bucks die during the winter. Lots of does die in the last weeks of pregnancy and about a week afterwards. Thousands of goatlings die right after birth and millions die before weaning. Forums ebb and flow, but these facts stay true each year every year. Vicki
