Post Vicki

Hay Vicki do you remember the topic about maybe going to look at some goats?
Well we went to look at them earlier today an we are not going to buy them due to the fact is 2 of them had small lumps on their throat so I told my DH not going to purchase none from this guy because they must have certain diseases. I didn't even fool with pulling blood because the other goats didn't look to good health either. They were kinda thin, coats on them looked really rough and one seem to have trouble standing up good. So we came back home from almost a 2 hour drive with nothing. Not going to purchase any unhealthy goats for my home. I may sound down right picky but like to be safe then sorry. Before we got home the boots I wore to that place went in the trash. Not bringing any type of diseases in our home. Also did take a change of clothes to an what had on went in the washer as soon got through our door. My senses told me to get all cleaned up before going out an feeding any of our animals. So ended up taken a nice warm shower. I may sound odd or strange but just didn't want to take a chance on what stock we have on makeing them sick from bringing in a disease/diseases from another place.

Thanks for all the help and advice

Good job!

Our first goat buying trip was a 4 hour drive one way! and we only put our name on 3 goats! (1 Nubian doe. The best thing I have ever got! ,1 BoerXSaanen wether, and 1 Boer doeling) Well that 8 hour trip turned into a 16 hour trip just to buy our first Nubain and Boer does!!! (thats how long it took to see them and then pick them up.)

I am just like you! I wear rubber boots and then throw them out or just bleach them a few times before wearing a agian. (Not in my barn to see other peoples.) I haven't went as few as taking a shower, but I srub my hands and arms a few times. Call me crazy but my herd is the best thing I have! better then all the stuff you can buy! Doesn't make sence killing you herd!

Good job White Eagle! Ya you could have probably scrubbed those boots real good with bleach water and bin ok.
Whenever we come home from a show we run everyones feet thru bleach water as soon as they're unloaded and our shoes as well.

I have barn shoes under my truck seat in plastic, I wear them at other folks places and never on mine, they are also my ugly black show shoes

Long trip but well worth it, now you can have an idea when you go to the next place of hopefully better goats! Just know there is no rush, there are goats for sale always. Vicki

I am glad to here about needing to change boots when going to look at goats. That's something I have never heard of but it sure makes sense. Thanks for the heads up.

Make your vet put their boots in bleach water, too.

I have friends with horses, and everyone who comes to their barn cleans their boots in bleach water before setting foot in their paddocks or barns.

That's about how my first goat buying (nonbuying that is) experience went.
