Hay Prices
What is the going cost of regular bale hay prices in your area?
Here we went yesterday to buy a few bales of hay for our goats which was $8.00 a bale for the regular size bales and about 7 months back the hay prices was only $2.50 a bale. Boy have the prices really jumped up due to the drought. On the over sized bales of hay it runs $105.00 a bale. This is just for grass hay not the other types of hay. We was also going to get some straw but there wasn't none to be found. If did it would be $6.00 for a bale of straw. We sure hope next season is better on hay an straw.

We are selling our square bales for $4.00 per bale. Round bales are selling for around $35/bale.

I just bought 8 big round bales for $25 each. Last year each bale lasted about 2 weeks with 25 sheep, and this year I have 24.
My neighbor got some square bales for $3. Others are asking $6 but I dont know if they are selling them

Plain ol' grass hay or grass/timothy is going for about 5-7 bucks a bale. There's a place a couple hours from me that is selling alfalfa for $125 a ton. Now if ya go to a feed store for it, well that's another story altogether. Plain ol' grass is about 10 bucks a bale and alfalfa is running 12-14 a bale and $240+ a ton.

Depends...$3-$12.
We have gotten grass hay for $3 from a very nice lady. Very nice hay that all my animals love. Especially the horses. We also have some grass/alfalfa mix hay from another place that we payed $3 for. We currently have approx 140 bales in our barn. The bales weigh between 50-60lbs. My uncle has hay for sale for $7. He is selling it to us for $5. And he has approx 200 bales saved for us.

Last year, we paid $25 for round bales. In August, he was charging $35, now he's charging $40. He said he had someone call him a week or two ago and offer $50 a bale for everything he had.
Straw is $3 a bale direct. A lot more if you buy from the feed store.

I am just getting ready to haul in 400 ton of this years good "bottom" hay for only $50 a ton! Last year I got about 180 ton of two year old hay for $40 and the rest was new hay at $50. I do think that the standard rate around here is at $60 or more though. Not sure on the little squares.

We're lucky my DH works cutting and bailing for a local farmer so our hay is free in return.
But if we had to pay more than 2.50 a bail, we wouldn't be able to afford our animals. We would have to cut down to a bare minimum and they're our food.
I would hate to have to go back to store bought nasty meats.
Our local price is 2.50 for grass hay.

Anywhere from $3 to $10 for a 75lb bale of average quality grass hay. +10$ a 75 lb bale for alfalfa.
I'm feeding 100% alfalfa pellets this year, no hay. Bedding with wheat straw ($1 a bale).

Let see, Grass hay is $3.00 small square (about 60lbs). And Alfalfa is $4.00 small square (about 70lbs). Last year Grass was the same, Alfalfa was $3.75. We have a regular supplier, who also delivers, so that is very nice for us. Oh, and our straw is $1.75 a bale (about 50lbs)
Alfalfa pellets on the other hand are $9.00 for 50#s.

I just got all the hay I need for the winter at $2.00 bale.
I was worried because the man I bought my hay for in the spring ($2.00 small square bale) did not come through with the fall cutting.
I was lucky to find someone in my poultry club who had goat hay (grass hay with weeds) for $2.00. Horse hay that he cuts is 3.75 but that list is longer than he can fill. He is bringing timothy hay in from PA at 7.50 a bale and selling it all.

I've been buying here.
http://www.venellfeed.com/ $7 per 50#
Coastal Farm has them for everyday price of 6.99 per 50#, new store opened closer, I may start buying there. Wilco is $8 per 50#. I really like the quality at Venell because they're milling their own feed and I know exactly whats in it, their prices are good, and they have several other products I like. I co-op with the neighbors and haul my trailer down every 6-8 weeks. They all chip in for gas. It's about 2 hours from me.

I picked up some excellent bermuda mix hay in the field for $3.50 a bale this summer.
I just had 30 bales of ok fescue delivered for 4.00 a bale plus delivery a few days ago. It's pretty fine textured, but some of it's yellow, I think it was baled during the dry hot part of the summer, when we didn't get any rain for a couple months and some of the grass was dead. No mold anyway haha.
The feed store charges $7.00 a bale for real good bermuda hay.
