Just For Fun! Goatie Fashion Accessories!

Ok, the annual Christmas parade is coming up and I'm seriously thinking of taking the goat with me this year when I go along handing out candy. She's light caramel and really looks deer-like (if you ignore her small horns). I would suspect that most city folk would really think she is a little deer. Has anyone ever put their goats in a parade and how did they make out? My doe (Nigerian Dwarf) is very calm and used to loud noises and lots of people, has been in fairs before.

What if anything would you suggest for "dressing up" a goat for Christmas (anything concerning "gravy" is not acceptable! LOL)? I have a cute little green/red collar and leash, which she is accustomed to. I may to put some little jingle bells on it. Or make a little harness? Or something else Christmas-y, perhaps make a little "doggie coat" with Christmas designs? I have a little Santa hat that I'm thinking of putting on her head to hide the horns. On the other hand, I don't want to have her suffer from overload---although we are talking Canada here, though, so there is a chance Parade Day will be bitter.

If you all have had fun dressing up your goats or other critters, please share the pics, even if not Christmas pics. And for all you old fuddy duddies who are too serious and think having fun with your goats is too silly, no response is necessary!

DD

Bells are certainly appropriate! Emily "earned" her Morris bell on May morning, and wears it when she goes out in public.

I would think a Santa hat and a little coat would be quite cute! She'll be a big hit, however you dress her. Emily certainly was.

Which Nigie is this? It's not the one I sold you, is it? I'm pretty sure she didn't have horns!

Go to your dollar store. (do you have like a dollar-ram-a Sp?) See what they have for Christmas outfits for dogs. I did. They had hats and clothers for only a BUCK! Sorry I don't have any pictures of her dressed up Never thought about it. She was just wearing it to pull the little sled for my cusin.

I didn't do a parade but I took my 8 month Nigie doe to a Fall Festival. We were a HUGE hit! Didn't have a single minute without being swarmed by kids (and adults). I took a tupperware full of grain and alfalfa pellets so everyone could have a turn feeding the goat--they loved it and my doe loved it. Win/Win situation! I say just use the bells and the Christmas leash/collar.

Pooks, no, this would be Sugar, another doe that is a little older. I considered using your Bambi, but she is still so small and hornless too. I thought that Sugar would be easier to keep on leash, since she's already used to that and the horns keep anything from slipping off. Bambi is a little more timid. Sugar is wayyyy outgoing, and I suspect she was bottle-raised.

Here's a pic (hopefully not too large):

HazyDay, actually, I did get a Santa hat for her at Dollarama, it looks great! Covers her horns exactly! Now she REALLY looks like a little deer. I think she will be a great hit at the parade! They didn't have coats, though, but I was looking!

I think I might get a little green dog harness and sew bells onto it.

Be careful in the crowds. I saw a goat that had a foot hanging off, cause it had been stepped on in a parade.

Stepped on by what, a person you mean? I won't be letting my goat get that crowded. They're like my kids; I take care of them, don't worry. Most of the time, we will be in the parade itself, walking with the line, throwing out candy. Brief stops along the way to the kids watching the parade mostly.

There is a really small village parade which I think I will try out first and see how it goes. The bigger city parade is a week from that. I want to see how many kms this parade is also, to make sure the walk is not too far. I can always join in halfway if I like. Hubby will meet us at the end so we don't have to walk back.

I think it would be really neat to get a pairof those felt antlers they use on people or dogs, and put them over her horns! then color her nose red and have a fake harness with bells have her become "Rudolpha the Red-Nosed Reingoat"!!

When I was in 4-H and even now my 4-H group or just a group of friends have walked goats in our towns strawberry festival kidded parade for close to 10 years and at lest once in the big parade, Everybody has loved seeing the goats each year.
It sounds like you pretty much have her costume, one thing I would suggest especially if she loves attention is to let people along the route pet her. I know I love to see the faces of the children who have never been close to a goat before and are able to touch one for the first time it's priceless.
As for the length of the route I had one goat that no matter how long the route she was going to walk the whole thing . First and for most have fun with her.

My son took one of our goats in the 4th of July parade. She walked along side the float while he passed out candy. Walked the whole route and wanted to keep going. The kids loved her...she was tickled with all the attention and it is a good advertisement for goats and how sweet they can be.
