Yard light / hormones

Will a very bright halogen yard light that comes on a dusk and off at dawn on a pole just outside the goat pen interfere with the doe's cycle?

Haven't seen any indication of heat yet.

I can definitely see it being a possibility. If you haven't seen heats yet, I would definitely turn it off.

No switch. It was put up by the electric co-op, and the only control is the automatic sensor.

Hmmm,

Keep them elsewhere until they are bred?

Put something up to block the light from that side?

Shine some light on that stinkin sensor?

We have a light like that in our barn yard -- no issues that we have noticed. There are three of our doelings whose heats I have not noticed yet, but 5 are on schedule and all the adult does are, too.

OK, then I won't worry about it.

We've only had a buck on premises a week, so maybe I just need some patience.

Not a surprise to people who know me well. :baby04:

its also possible to have very quiet heats and you wont know they were even ready till you find them pregnant as there is lots of action going on at night as well

our electric co-op allows the option of shutting the pole light off. it costs 8$ a month to have it on, and I told them when I moved here I didn't want it. they shut it off, and that is that.

Ask them about it. the worst they can do is say no.

I'd think a week is not enough time yet to be worried. KSALguy has a valid point, too, about activity taking place that is not observed.

You may find this of interest:
