Question Does rumen move like a baby? Say "yes" please...

I bought a teeny, tiny little doe in late May. The woman I bought her from said she was born in February and was 10 weeks old. She was in a pen with a bunch of other same-age kids.

About, oh, two months ago she started looking really round and now she just looks ridiculous. I was thinking that she must have some all powerful rumen action going on. It suddenly occured to me that she might be pregnant... I was telling myself it was impossible, but I was just looking out the window and one of her sides moved like there was something in there! Repeatedly.

Please tell me rumen moves. She is far too little to have babies. I don't think she'd make it. She didn't get a great start (I didn't realize it at the time) and she only weighs 65-70 lbs.

Rumen moves, right?

RedTartan

ETA: Her sides are symmetrical... and big.

On which side of her body are you seeing movement? The rumen is going to be on the left - babies would be on the right.

On the right... But I found a due date calculator on fiascofarms website. For her to be pregnant, she'd be 10 days overdue now. Is that possible?

Thanks,

RedTartan <- feeling a little bit better now.

what are you feeling?

Have you actually felt babies moving?

don't go on what you see on the outside, it's too iffy

wrap your arms around this doe and try to FEEL babies... kicking, bumping, hooves something

if she's that small and she's preg you certainly oughta be able to feel them at this stage in the game...

oh, and get yourself prepped for kids JIC... it's always the ones you don't want to kid that do!

let us know

Misty

She's really small. Her teats/udder has gotten a tiny bit larger, but I attributed it to just growing up.

No, I tried to feel for them once on a different day and she just felt hard.

OK, I saw tumbling, rolling movement on the right. If it wasn't rumen and if she was bred on the day I bought her, she'd be 10 days overdue now; then what was all that movement on the right. To clarify "the right": She was standing with her backend toward me and the movement was on the right bump. That's her "right", right?

RedTartan <- starting to get worried again.

Do you have any bucks she could have gotten in with or they could have gotten in with her???

Place your hand infront of her teats and press on her belly and see if you can feel any hooves. When my does are bred and they are far enough along I can usually place my hand there and feel the babies.

Keep your hand there for quite a while. Also feel up on the bump on her right side - you standing behind her. If she is 10 days over due, you will feel them! Strong baby kicks - very much like feeling a baby kick on a pregnant woman.

Right. My guess is that she is pregnant and she is overdue - because of her small size. My inclination would be to get her to a vet for an ultrasound to confirm or deny, and possibly a c-section, or induced labor with assistance. I am not a goat expert, just a goat lover, maybe one of the more experienced members can comment.

Good luck,
Anne

Are you going by 150 days or 5 months? It can be different. If she was bred the 25th of May, she would be due the 22nd of this month.

Her teats may get bigger, but her udder won't unless she is bred (or has a precocious udder).

BUT do y'all really think she would have cycled that early?

Hmm, has she not cycled yet either? She should have had a heat by now if she isn't pregnant.

Oh, didn't notice you mentioned you used the due date calculator. 10 days is very overdue I believe, especially for such a small doe, you would expect she might go early (just wouldn't have room). Pictures should help as mentioned.

I would definately worry, because if she's gone that far past, there is really not much chance of her having them on her own.

Sure she couldn't have been bred later?

Well I would like to say this. I have only one doe that ALWAYS have her baby LATE.. I am serouis.. I always calulated the due date... And I counted at 150 days but she went to 160 days and Once she went up to 170 days.. She is fine and the baby born fine... She is not small. That who she is.. But U said that her teat is longer. It sound like she wont kid her baby until in a month or so. I wanted to know do u have buck in ur farm??? If u do have a buck.. Does ur buck run with them??? If ur buck did. Then I am sure that she will have her baby later than you thought... I know that the does will go up to 145 to 160 days but sometimes more... Like with my doe..
