Registration 101

I just purchased my first 2 registerable (if that is a word) Boer does last weekend. The lady I bought them from has really turned out to be one heck of a mentor to me (and good friend). She was explaining something to me that I hadn't read here before and I thought I would share it, not only for confirmation but I also thought it might help others understand the registration process as there have been threads from others recently who are new to registration, like me.

She was explaining that the ABGA was set up by cattle breeders and that the papers follow closely the registration process for cattle. Where a Boer goat may be registered as full blood, pure bred, or percentage. The way I understood her, full blood is exactly what it sounds like, 100% Boer lineage. Pure bred is something that may be bred up to, by improving the percentage, generation after generation.

I also understood her to say that the terminology is exactly the opposite with the dairy goat folks. In that purebred is 100% breed (Nubian, etc) and purebred is obtained by breeding "up" percentage goats.

Anyway, please correct me if I am understanding this incorrectly. If I'm correct, I thought this might help someone else new to this.

And I hope to send pictures of my new girls soon for opinions. I'm pretty pleased with my choices.
