Pricing Colostrum

Our farm was struck by lightning Tuesday. In addition to losing everything in our machine shed (including all of our hay, equipment, and our chickens), which burned to the ground, we lost the contents of our refrigerator and freezer in the house.

I am now faced with the task of itemizing everything out for the insurance adjuster. He said I should claim the milk and colostrum we lost in the freezer like I would anything else. I know that what I milked from my does was much more valuable than any kind you can buy dried.

Does anyone sell colostrum to other breeders? I also have the goat's milk from the first 2 days after kidding (our doe lost her kid and we kept those first days' milk/colostrum in case we might ever need it).

If you can pass along a price, I would be grateful.

Thanks in advance.

I get 2x what I get for the milk. That works out to $16 a gallon.
Sorry for the loss. I can't even imagine how horrible that must be.
Glad you were not hurt.

The man I got my goats from said that he sells frozen heat treated colostrum from the first 24 hrs for $5.00 a pint - would work out to $40.00 per gallon.
