I figure protein and fat the same way. Here's how I do it.
Get all the fat percentages for the ingredients you are using. (Like corn would be about 3% fat, oats 4% fat...)
Then multiply the fat percentage of that ingredient to how many pounds of the ingredient you are using. (If I use 10 lb. of corn I would multiply .03 x 10)
Do that for all your ingredients. Then add up the number for each ingredient you have (when you multiplied.)
Then divide what you added up by the total ammount of grain you have. That will give you the fat percentage.
Example: 33 lb of feed
Multiply
9 lb. ProVider 38 Dairy pellet 1% fat (.01 x 9 = .9)
10 lb. Corn 3% fat (.03 x 10= .3)
10 lb. Oats 4% fat (.04 x 10= .4)
2 lb. Beet Pulp .3% fat (.003 x 2= .006)
2 lb. BOSS 25% fat (.25 x 2= .5)
Add
.9 + .3 + .4 + .006 +.5 = 2.106
Divide
2.106 / 33 = .064
That makes this ration a 6.4% feed ration. To raise or lower the fat you can add and subtract BOSS.
( I also use this same formula to find out Protein, calcium, and phoshorous percentages.)
