No heats yet... ?

I haven't seen any heats out of either of my alpine does! One I bought preggo, kidded in March, and haven't seen a heat from her yet. The other I bought earlier last year, and she went into heat while here and I bred her to one of my bucks... She was VERY obvious about being in heat... literally climbing the fence to get to my bucks... She kidded this march too, and I haven't seen a heat from her yet this season, either!

GRRR I want them bred this month! Not to mention I have to cart them all the way to wherever the breeder is (I currently forget the city name) when I notice a heat from them. I'm gonna put a deposit on a buckling this year.

If they kidding in March then it is almost the same time of year now that they were bred last year so maybe it is just now their prime time. Also, great that you will be owning your own buck, that is why I always keep at least one, I don't want to miss heats

Mine are slow to get going this year too. I've seen a 5 month old doeling in heat, and her mother about a week later, both for only one day - oh, and possibly one of the Nigies. I'm not planning to breed for another month or two anyway (and the doeling probably not this year!), so I'm not too worried.

Be patient - "a watched pot never boils", and I suspect the same is true of goats coming into heat!

I notice that you're in Michigan. I'm in Ohio and the breeders around here are noticing the very same thing. No heats. They think it's the kooky weather we've been having.

Well, thank goodness I'm not the only one with weird heats occuring, lol.

I do have two bucks, but they're miniatures and they're not going to breed to my lovely alpine ladies... It makes it much easier to detect heats, though!

i'm in michigan as well. most of my does are breed for january and february kidding. i have nubians maybe that is a difference? i also have my bucks and i'm sure the smell helps to bring them into heat.
