Good dog or stupid goat...

I went out to feed my Boer cross goats last evening ,as I do every evening. My Blue Heelers follow but are not allowed in with the goats. They can't stand the temptation and try to herd the goats by biting them on the back legs. They know they are not allowed and sit quietly by the gate, which I leave unlatched but closed while I feed(no goat is going out the gate while there is a feed bucket inside.)There are about 15 large does in this pasture and their kids. As I was feeding one of the largest does stepped right smack in the middle of my foot and stood there. I hollered "Ow you fat heifer get off my foot" and pushed her off.But someone else got impatient and went between my legs (I am tall) knocked me off balance and down I went feed bucket and all. I guess I hollered again to try to get up without being trampled and all of a sudden no goats. There was a ring of goats in front of me all looking at me. I couldn't figure it out till I looked behind me. There was one of my Blue Heelers sitting (inside the gate)right by my head. He didn't make a sound he just stared them down. He quietly followed me back out the gate, which was still closed

Excellent dog! Sounds like a normal goat though, neither above nor below average. My silly dog (lab/border collie mix) thinks she's a herder but doesn't really get the goats moving in any direction and when she does try, they just butt her and go on about their business. I don't suppose any of my animals take the dog seriously...how could you when even the chickens chase her!l

Excellent dog! I'd be praising that dog like nobody's business. He knew when it was ok to break the rules and he accomplished what was needed with no big hassle. Can I have him? lol j/k

He is a great dog!!! Very loyal. I even know an hour before it thunders cause he and his sister stick to me like glue (we call them thunder chickens).
Good dog or stupid goat... - Goats
This is a baby picture. He is the one in the back. They are 4 yo now she is a typical heeler about 40 lbs, he is 80 lbs and twice the size he should be I wouldn't recommend these dogs around goats unless you have a good fence, great dogs ,not great goat dogs.

I would hug that boy's neck for sure! I had 3 STUPID dogs in the pen when the buck decided to tackle me. They all just ignored him! First thing DH said was "where was that stupid dog?"
