Buster's getting his cast off today! :)

Buster the polka dotted Nubian is at the vet today to get his leg cast off.

He had to wear the cast for 9 weeks. He's been a house goat during that time with his own little apartment set up in the laundry room with a gate so he can peek into the kitchen. Our dog has been pulling many hours of baby sitting duty to keep him company, and we've had lots of extra work cutting trees to bring him browse to eat on the porch and taking him out on a leash to browse on the hills for a few hours a day. You wouldn't believe how many trees a goat can go through in 9 weeks!

We left him with the vet assistants at 7:30 this morning where he was given free run of the office and was getting a good deal of attention when we left. When we get him back this afternoon we are looking at about another month of him being a house goat - but within a few days we'll at least be able to turn him out in the fenced side yard so he can browse on his own schedule. (We couldn't do that before because he could get the cast wet in the waterfall and creek or fill it up with coal dust sliding down the hill.

Summer sure has gone by quickly. I think we've done nothing much but tend to Buster and water the garden. And now that we've had almost a full four hour break from the fuss this morning I miss the little guy and the sound of hoof clunking and the calls of "Bleahhh!" in the other room.

Well - back to waiting for the phone to ring. I wonder what Buster will think when he finds they've taken off his fancy bionic hoofie.

You've got a lot more patience than me having a goat in the house that long. Mine have gone right back to the barn with splinted legs.
I hope it goes well for you and him.
