Didn't let down

We have a little wheter --- and I noticed the other day he looked funny in the male region and I felt the area and sure enough I felt something! He was born late May and banded in late June and the sack fell off late July. Can he still breed? Are there any options that aren't surgical?

I bought my first goat and he was a part wether. We had to have the Vet take care of it. It was the only way. Now when I band, I make sure they are both in there.

Well, if he has a testicle, then I imagine he is producing testosterone, so that means he is fertile.

I honestly don't know if you can band a 3 1/2 month old buckling. I would not. I recently had a full grown buck castrated and it cost $88, and I think NY prices are probably on the high side. The vet knocked him out, also gave a local shot, cut the sack and pulled everything, then gave a shot to bring him out of sedation. Oh, and a shot of long lasting penicillin. I gave the CD&T a couple days ahead of the surgery. I took him to the vet, saving a $50 farm call.

I am a real weinie when it comes to my animals. I actually cried in front of the vet, because I consider this goat to be a pet. It was worth the $$ to be to have him castrated and be able to keep him here with his 3 daughters.
