What book would u recomend for a newbie for goats

I am getting very close to being able to get a few goats and would like a good resourse book with all I would need to know about goats. I'm in NW AR if there is anyone in the area that could show me pointers on getting and raising goats. I want them for milk and meat. thanks JIL

The Storey's guides are really good. We have dairy goats, so we bought the dairy version, but there is a new meat goat guide, too. I think it may be more focused on raising for profit, though - so I would say get the dairy guide - it covers meat basics, too.

I also like the book Barnyard in Your Backyard - it has basics on goats, cows, poultry, rabbits - a good book for homesteading beginners.

With blueHeronfarm! Both are great books! get the newest one of storeys guide. the old one is harder to understand!

Raising Dairy Goats Succefully (spelling??) Is also a good one. (Wrote by the same one as Barnyard in your backyard I think! )

book: Goat Husbandry

An absolute must for any goat raisers library would be Goat Husbandry by David MacKenzie... go for the ealier editions as they are less 'politcally correct' and have a ton of wonderful home remedies for illness.

A lot of great info on nutrition and kidding problems in there too!
