lets play- Whats that lump?

okie dokie- here ya go. noticed from across the pasture this evening this hideous lump on a young doeling. it appears that it has various contours and is not just one nice round lump as you can see from the pic. it doesn't appear to be painful, and her range of motion is not limited, the insides are pretty solid its not "just" fluid. injury? cl? it really doesn't appear to me to be a reaction to a sting or anything, just judging from how I react ie just swelling, its too hard and well....lumpy, the shape adn feel is rather like a rag wadded irregularly under her skin. I don't figure there is much to do, she's not my favorite and has little redeeming qualitys so I'm not going to throw money at her but...any ideas?

Could it have something to do with her cud?

Ick, I'd give it a couple days to see if it was a reaction to a sting or bite or something.

Honestly though, If it doesn't go away or gets bigger, I'd have the lumps removed fully and intact from the doe, and sent them in for testing, if for no other reason than to protect the rest of the herd... if she's positive, cull her and start testing the rest of the herd via blood, often, to catch CL as early as possible as it spreads...

Good luck!

it could be the thyroid gland. i doubt it is cl but is difficult to tell from the picture. a breeder friend just ad a doe with similar growth on her neck. they first thought it came from salivary gland but after testing and examining the diagnosis was a soft tissue growth that then was surgically removed.
another goat could have bumped her and it is a bad bruise. do you have goats with horns?
if that is not a valuable doe for you, you might not find it worth to test. you can wait and see how it changes or put her in the freezer.

I don't think its a cl lump either but I have never encountered one before, she isn't turned out with anyone that has horns, but of course she could have hurt herself in someother way. what really perplexes me is that it is so irregular, its difficult to tell from the pics but there is more like 3 connected irregular lumps rather than 1 large one. eek tumor?? if it gets worse she'll go in the freezer, sadly she's not worth testing or even an examination fee to me, I was just plannig on getting some boer crosses out of her before culling.
