Update on Goat with polioencephalomalacia

ok DEstiny is now walking!!!! in fact I believe has decided she may never lay down again last night she discovered how to stand up by herself. and without supervision I am afraid she will hurt herself if she falls.

When do I stop giving VIt B complex?? She gets 24 cc. a day.

all she has left to learn is how to drink on her own. I stil have to tube her b/c she thinks she has to lap up the water and it confuses her.

she is a miracle.. almost a whole month without walking and look at her now.
thanks for all the help

Madie: I'm thoroughly impressed, it's very rare for a goat to even attempt to recover, although it depends mostly on the owner and their situation. You're doing tremendously. Don't stop the B-complex. I would cut back, about 2cc daily until you are down to 12cc a day, and hold that for several weeks providing she is still responding well. Eventually you could just administer 12cc a week, being 3cc every other day just about. She'll need the B-complex support for a while. Another thing you can add is MSM, about a teaspoon to her food daily. This helps with swelling and inflamation and provided good joint support, which is critical especially in her current stages of progress! You can get MSM at most feed stores, and definitely online. A 2lbs bucket will last you a while. Are you doing electrolytes or any other vitamin and mineral supplements?

thanks queenB I missed this.

we give her bounce back. She still is not able to drink by herself so I have to tube her fluids so I rotate water and bounce back.

I wil get some MSM on monday.

as an update she is still doing great!
