We just purchased 9 nannies and 1 billy - plan on using for meat and just looking at their cute faces. We've fallen in love! Can't wait for the babies to come.

Didnt know there were so many!

Can you guys tell me everything there is to know about Boers. I was thinking about purchasing some next year. But want to learn about them first. I own Pygmys and Nubians.

Also would Boers does and a Nubian buck cross well for a meat goat?

I am not showing or anything.

We have a "commercial" herd of Boer cross goats and dairy goats. Four of our six bucks are Boer or Boer cross. Two fullbloods (only one registerable), a Boer/Saanen (50/50) and a 15/16th Boer (1/1/6 Togg/Nubian).
33 of the 72 does and doelings on the farm have known Boer in them. A couple more could easily have Boer in them. Only one fullblood doe (no papers..the previous owner renigged after I brought her back to health), a higher percentage doe and then from 76% down to 25% Boer on the rest.
Ours are for commercial meat production.

A Nubian buck over a Boer doe tends to throw a more dairy offspring than the other way around. Makes for good milking does, but the registration is an issue, I believe. Since they can't be registered with ADGA and I am not sure about the Boer registries. I believe the sires need to be Purebred or Fullblood Boer bucks for registration purposed.

Hmm...Well if the nubian buck x boer does would produce offspring that would be more dairy that wouldnt work. And I definately dont have room for another buck.

You don't lose the meat entirely. They just aren't the same as the Boer buck over dairy does.

Here are two kids out of a polled Nubian buck and a grade Boer doe;
Who owns Boer gots? - Goats
Buck kid...a couple of months old. He was retained for breeding but ended being a dud after only settling his dam at three months old.

Who owns Boer gots? - Goats
His polled twin sister taken a couple of days ago at 16 months old. He was 10 pounds at birth, she was 5 pounds.

Their dam right after being bred by our Nubian buck-winter of 2005.

I bred one of my purebred Boers to my Nubian buck and got a nice little wether that I plan to raise to butcher. My half Boer was also bred to the Nubian and the little doeling looks like a Nubian. I'll sell her as a family milker. Nubians are dual purpose goats and I usually get a good market price for the wethers, so the Nubian Boer cross do OK at market as well. The one thing to be aware of if you do choose to raise a few Boers along with your Nubians is that a diet that will keep the Nubians looking good can tend to make Boers fat. They do better if they are run separately. This is the reason I plan to sell out the Boers this year and stick to dairy goats.

We have a small herd of Boers, 8 does and 2 bucks. We will continue to slowly increase our herd. We have fullbloods, but we do cross our buck with the only dairy goat we have, a Saanen. We like that cross.

We raise goats for seed stock, for show and for market.

We have a fullblood buck and 15 percentage does. We sell them. Our main sales target is for 4H. I don't think I could eat kids I raised unless I HAD to.

I have 18 does, 6 Half grown doe kids and a buck--all Reg Full blood Boers.
They are kept to sell breeding stock. The kids sell quickly.
The Boers are a pleasure to work with, docile and easy to handle.
