First heats

Got two does in heat tonight. First heats of the season! Unfortunately they are two of the does I bought this spring who were severely undernourished. So they are on the list to breed *next* month after they get their Bose shots this month. Don't want to risk singles from them because their systems are still depleted. They look good, but I'd rather wait another month and get twins or triplets than breed this month and get a single. Kids are money in the bank. Breeding season is here......by the way, bucks are going nutz.

I have a doe (Jane Doe) bred for December 4th kids if she took. I'm fairly confident she was in heat as Rudy doesn't bother them if they aren't. I was hoping for more to cycle but I've only seen three since adn they were within the past week. None of which were the ones I aplnned to breed, so they are being held over for next month.

The bucks are definitely going nuts here. My youngest buck is receiving constant attention from the yearling buck in with him.
Three of my six bucks are going to another farm for a month tomorrow. Thank goodness! It includes my biggest boy, William, who just kinda falls over fences.
Not quite the heats we were seeing this time last year. To think, I was actually hoping for December kids this year. lol

I've got my three senior does bred, if the breedings take.
One for the week after Thanksgiving, and the other two for the week after that. The younger does have also cycled, but I am holding off on them.
The bucks are stinky as can be. yuck.

Huh. I've noticed my buck's getting a tiny bit more buck smell, up from about none. But no one is in heat yet. I'm glad, because I don't want babies in December, January OR February in this climate. March is often hard enough.

We've had 4 (out of 12) girls come into heat this past week. My girls are penned FAAAARRR away from the boys. I'm thinking that might be why all our bucks are still calm and not so smelly. *whew* I just wonder how long it will stay that way? Planing on breeding the first girls in August here.
