Baby Monitor in the barn

We have kept a baby monitor in the barn for many many years. Originally it was to listen to barn noises during kidding season. And it really has helped in that regard. If they kid at night, I can stay in bed until I hear the contractions! We now leave the monitor on 24/7. The main reason now days is that we have coyotes. But also, I have saved several kids through the years that got in trouble and needed untangled from something. Our barn is about 500 feet from the house and not visible when the trees have leaves.

Thought I would share this idea that has worked very well for us.

Thanks! I may have to take a look at them. It would save a lot of late night trips outside at lambing time, and my barn is even closer to the house.

Really like having the baby monitor too. Our goat shed is 100' from the house so we power with an ext. cord. The only problem? The roos start crowing at 3am!

I had to laugh....about the roosters we have the same situation with our roosters and baby monitors. It is actually kinda funny, we always say now if they can only get in sink with the alarm clock( 4;30) we would be good to go... But yes they are good to have during kidding season...

Our monitor is the Evenflo Whisper Connect 900mhz. Has a range of 600' I think. The house unit cann be off the charger for about 4-5 hrs. before needing recharging but we mostly keep it plugged in. Has 2 settings for interferance. Got it at Kmart, a marked down for $20.00.

Yup, if those roos would just move their clocks to closer to 4:30, it would be alot better! But the important aspect is that we also can hear the llama's alarm call even if he's out in the pasture. Perversely this allows me a good night's sleep!
