Question Head Butting = Possible "Foreplay"?

A little background: June 10th, when I first put the buck in with the does to be bred, the girls had their hackles up and there was some serious, antagonistic head-butting going on. This went on for a couple of days, then the two does and the buck settled down.

The past few days I've noticed head-butting has begun again. This time there are no raised hackles, though. The does are very vocal, and exhibiting a lot of tail-flagging. The buck is getting a little smelly, and he has been investigating the doe's external genetalia; mainly sniffing.

No blubbering yet, but a little chasing.

Do ya think all this may be goat-type "foreplay"?

I do realize that not all bucks go about wooing the girls the same way, but does all this sound like it may lead to romance?

This is only my second year in breeding, and last year's buck was extremely obvious!

Thanks for any replies or input.

When the girls started acting like hoochies, following him, rubbing their heads on him, putting their heads under his chin and nibbling at him, they are in looooove. Good luck. I've had the neighbors three old queens in with my buck since May 26th, and though he's getting good and stinky, we ain't seen any obvious action yet. I'm crossing my fingers, 'cause as soon as the "berthas" are gone, my girls go in for July/August. I'm really hoping for some December babies this year.

My does never come into heat in the summer. My guess is that they're getting acquainted and will breed in the fall.

Hmmmm. Chamoisee, mine are acting all goofy and looney. Last year they bred in July. Anyway, it sure looks like they are getting "acquainted" all right
