Deer/Goats herding at night...

... and stay that way til dawn. I was always lead to believe there was a natural/common dislike for one another until this year. There is even a doe with twin fawns out there as I speak, and the fawns are enteracting with a young Boer doeling... kicking, playing, head-butting, the whole smear.
I can't think of any 'serious' health issues to be concerned over, so I'll let it continue until someone makes a stand. Wish my camera could work at night... I'd love to build a screen-saver of this.

Is this normal/usual for everyone with goats? It happened regularly with some of our yearlings, and even some of our calves, but I hadn't heard of goats going at it like this.

I would think there would be a compitition for foilage/grazing and cause one to run the other off.

That would be a great picture! We have deer come to the salt block-or cross through, but have never seen them "interacting" as you are. The goats will always stare towards the deer, and watch them-but not get closer, or run off. I do know of one person that had their buck goat killed by a buck deer during rutt-speared w/antlers! I know of several cases of does jumping enclosures to birth and raise their fawns in a "safe" environment. Try to get that picture!

That would be cute. I wish the deer around here would do something like that, instead of breaking the fence. LOL

The only concern I would have is the deer worm that deer carry. It isnt fatel to deer but with goats it is. So be carefull and read up on it.

.....I do think you should be careful of menigenial (sp) worms , spread from wild deer, not sure if this is a threat in all areas though.... probably should research it though... some fellows around here have had nasty, nasty times dealing with it infecting herds....there may be a preventative shot/something you can give to your goats...

all that aside, I can't imagine how cute that must be! Think we need a picture for sure

Aaw!! Sounds like something really neat to watch.
I cant wait until Pokey has fawns. It will be interesting to see how they interact with the kids.
Here's Maggie, Hannah, and Pokey.

Are my eyes playing tricks on me? That is just way cute. How long has she been with you? Does she always stay with the goats and dog? I have to say that my dogs scare off the deer.

Wingdo. If you could get some good pictures of the goats and deer, I bet they would be worth something. I would love to see that.
