We have only ever had two breeds---Saanen and Nubian---so I can only compare the two, and it's Saanen hands down because of their temperament. The Nubians are prettier IMO, but ours all seem sort of high strung and stubborn. Every encounter is like a power struggle. The Saanens are more laid back and will let you do almost anything to them as long as you are paying attention to them. Some folks would probably appreciate the independent behavior, but to me it gets old fast. Then again, maybe our goats are all weird. Many days I'm convinced of this

I can't help noticing you don't have Mini Manchas, my favorite, on your list. Such is the life of a pioneer.

We had a couple of dwarf/mini goats that were our start, and they are gone now to other owners. We now have a Alpine that we milk (wonderful milk!) and a yearling Nubian. Love them both for different reasons.

Is there an unloved or unwanted goat on the planet? Goats are great! Life would just be plain boring and depressing without them.

I remember when I first bought my first goats. My DH saying "why goats?" Now he hates it when I sell one off because he gets so attached to them. LOL

You don't have either Kinders or Oberhaslis on your list, so I couldn't vote.

i like meat goats because they are sweet and good looking, and they usally have good traits to pass on to their offspring. And when i say their sweet, im saying that because mine are, ( and i have several bucks-meat, and the only time the 100% 1 has ever shown any bad attitude was when he reared up at me. In horses that would be considered a challenge, but he is not a horse ! Anyway, i am getting of the subject, and goatiegurl, i have to PM you about something. thanks, SJ

Seriously, though, Oberhaslis are so lovely. I have got to meet some in person someday.
