Worlds biggest blonde moment.... EVER
Well all..... I've been known to do some dumb stuff. Often. But this one tops any cake..... EVER!
On may 14 I had a doe give birth to twins. This doe was huge and I thought there was going to be about 4 in there but alas only 2. So bummed but anyway back to my dumb self. When I found the kids one was chunky and I looked VERY quickly glanced and it looked like there was a male rear there. And the other was VERY dainty and looked and sure enough a doe kid. After that first look I never looked again.... why bother.... I've never been wrong before. So today.... 2 1/2 weeks later I was out there feeding them and my daughter who is 7 was in there with me and we were playing with the little buggers who are very cute by the way. Well, I was wanting the buck kid (I can't remember why but I think just cause) and went and grabbed the bulky one. There was no male stuff. I thought well I'll be.... I thought that was the buck. So I set that one down and grabbed the other one all the while thinking how did I get that backwards? That one was a doe too. I thought now how in the world did I grab the same one again? Stupid blonde. So I gave that one to my daughter so as not to screw up again and grabbed the other kid. THEY WERE BOTH DOES@! For 2 1/2 weeks I have thought that I had a buck and a doe. 2 1/2 WEEKS!!! I had to email the lady with the buck order and humiliate myself and explain what happened which I'm sure she got a laugh from. Then I had to email the person who I'd already emailed and told her sorry but no doe kid and tell her and I'm sure she's thinkin I'm an idiot too (sorry Tami.... ). I called my friend and told her and when I did all I heard was laughter for about 30 seconds. She's got goats too and I thought MAYBE she would be sympathetic but I'm thinking she thought pathetic. HAHA!
Has ANYONE here ever done that or any I the only idiot in the world of the goats? LOL! I could keep this to myself but I thought someone out there really needed a good laugh and so why not get one on me? LOL!

LOL!
Yesterday I took our new kitten into the vets for shots. The lady we got "her" from said it was a female short hair and I never actually lchecked. That was a couple of weeks ago. The vet kept referring to the kitten as a he. Yup short haired female turned out to be a medium haired male. At least her/his name is gender nuetral. But am I having a hard time explaining to my 3 year old daughter that her "girl" kitty is really a boy.
As a fellow blonde I certainly have sympathy for you. At least I only have a 3 yr old to deal with and not customers!

Once you get the boy fixed, it will be an it and won't matter to your 3 yr old. On the up side, it's cheaper to get the boy fixed.

I had a friend in London who took her 'female' kitty to be spayed. She told the vet that it was a female and the vet believed her...until the kitty was asleep on the operating table with a cut open belly and no uterus to be found. Lo and behold, one check under the tail was all it took to confirm that kitty was a male.

I had a female fluffy kitten named Lola who is now a big beautiful boy named Hoover. Considering the Kinks song, I probably could have left it, but my daughter was younger then, and I didn't feel like explaining the joke.

I did the same thing with a big boer doe I have.I even in my records wrote down buck and doe. They were outside playing and I had to clean the crusty poo and there were girl parts (all these boer kids look alike) so I picked up the other one and girl parts??Surely these weren't her kids her buckling must be somewhere else.So I went around looking at kid butts and low and behold all the new ones were does.I even went back to see them nurse later to make sure. I of course am never wrong so I blamed it on the lighting in the barn.

I did the same thing with a kitten (seems to be a trend with cat owners )
My gramma passed away & we went to the home to make arrangements. A little kitten had ridden in the wheel well of a car that belonged to the nurse. In my state, I told them I'd take "him" home, it seemed like a last gift from gramma.
4 months later "he" went into heat! SHE was promptly spayed! Buddy, became Buggy.

Cats are SO hard to tell in the first weeks that it's easy to make the mistake. Little teeny goat parts are sometimes hard to see right off too... but like I said in the email Allenslabs... one hole boy, two holes girl. hahaha

I forgot another one.
Growing up I had a Border Collie/German Shepherd mix. Neighbors AKC German Shepherd came courting.
Free puppy sign was put up. A mother & 2 sons came & wanted a puppy. A boy. These pups all looked like tan shep. with black points, very nice looking, sturdy pups. All the boys went first.
Fine, she said, I'll take a girl, the biggest one. They also took a kitten.
3 weeks later I ask how everyone is doing. Oh, she said, I thought that puppy was a boy (DUH, I TOLD you it was a GIRL!!), my husband came home & said you lied, it was a girl!!! WHAT??!! They took it to the pound (I think they dropped it along the road, but didn't know where)

I never look under the tail, I look for a scrotum - or a lack of one. My eyesight isn't that good enough to depend on a under the tail glance!

My husband should be a blonde. He found a cat at a cabin he was staying in up in the mountains. He said the cat was black and white so he named it Sylvester. I asked him if he had looked under it's tail. He hadn't. Sylvester is now called Sylvia. He had found a spayed female. Then, last year he reported that Isis had twin bucklings. I went out to see them and discovered one was a doeling.
