goat-ends
I realize that it is a vital issue of animal husbandry, but does anyone else find the hermaphrodite thread goat-vulva close ups to be kind of...well, unusual kinds of pics to find on a discussion forum?
"Did you find anything interesting on the web today, dear?"
"Oh, no, just a bunch of hermaphroditic goat genitalia."
Maybe I'm being sophomoric, but there's something about it that just gives me a chuckle.

It IS funny, but so dang informative. I can imagine DH looking over my shoulder, double taking and making various exclaimations. He works far away from home and is gone for four day stretches, so he has no idea how much time I've spent looking at the live things over the last months. Just glad I don't work outside the home at this time, and risk perusing these threads there.
I've learned 98% of what I "know" about goats on line, from experiences other's had and pics posted. And since a lot of owners are everything, including vets, to their goats, a picture's worth a thousand words.
I read a verbal explaination of hermaphrodite appearance. It did not give me an accurate mental picture. When it described a "pea" like protuberance, I'd have been looking for a pea. Emily's pics brought it all home.

Mom still does a double take when she downloads my camera and all the pictures are of udders and butts. You'd think she would be used to it after all these years...after all this goat butt obsession thing started 7 years ago!
Yep, we belong to the goat butt obsession club.....

LOL you should see when I take my camera to school...
"EWWWW!" Is probably the most stated word. Then once I explain about how thier bodies shift over time with pregancies, they usually don't think I"m some sort of perv, but sill think I'm a little odd, lol.
But pics like that are so dang informative. Think of it like reading an anatomy book... It's just about how things work, meant to be informative and not offend.

I think it's fantastic that we can talk about all aspects of goats and reproduction without getting squeamish.

There's horse porn over on the Equine forum. LOL
Seriously, though, the pictures are great - where else would we be able to find this info? I've never seen pictures of hermaphrodite goats in any books.

What's worse is when a group of us gals meets for lunch.....artifical insemination, collecting our bucks for AI, a really difficult delivery...we get all sorts of looks and stares as we talk about our goats.
Especially with CAE (goat AIDS) and sexually transmitted diseases like chlamydia, birth and death...there is nothing better to teach young kids the facts of life.
There isn't a self respecting breeder out there that doesn't have a rear udder picture of all their does. Vicki
