Disbudding NDs. What kind of iron?

We helped a friend with NDs to disbud her new kid a few days ago. We used our regular goat disbudding iron, a Lenk 200, which works fine on our Lamancha kids. It did the job, but it seemed almost like it was too big for his head. The circles seem so much bigger on him proportionally. And it seemed like there was more soft tissue closer to the horn bud that got burned then there is when we use it on our LMs. I'm wondering if there is a better iron for NDs, maybe something with an even smaller diameter burning ring?

We used our Rhinehart X-30 for both our Alpines and ND.

I haven't done Nigies, but have done pygmy's which are the same size. I just used the Rhinehart X50 for them just like I do with the large breeds. They do fine.

I have heard the horn base is wider for a ND. I had a vet do my nd last year and it was is if he had craters in his tiny head! He's a year old in a couple of weeks and he does have little scurs despite the craters. I just had my Saanen doeling done just a few minutes ago and the holes look smaller on her bigger head.

I think you did just fine...

Nigie horns are stubborn! Do NOT buy a Nigerian tip if you get a Rhinehart. WAY too small. I use an X-40, but if I were buying it again, I'd get an X-30 because the right size tip is original equipment, not an add-on.
