Would this work?

In my new place there are alot of old sinks lying around. I was thinking about using them as goat waterers. Hook them up and secure tightly ! to the wall. When they need to be emptied and cleaned, drain water into bucket for garden and turn tap to refill. They are porcelain etc.. so should be easy to keep sanitary etc... Would have stopper at end of pipe on other side of the wall... Sounded good to me, but need more knowledgable input. TIA.

I'd think they'd work, but aren't they kind of heavy? Make sure they're very secure. Goats, especially kids, like to stand in everything!

Why not? I use old bathtubs to feed my horses out of...

Cheap, durable, and easy to clean...

I just take the drain stuff out so the water/rain drains out...

Good use for sinks...

I have a double-sideboard sink I plan to set up on saw horses and attach a hose to for a butchering station...

River-rats use them for fish butchering stations. Keeps the mess out of the "house."

Early Redneck Era...

Just watch out for newborns. They will drown in anything they can manage to get in. We keep water buckets high or on the other side of the pen with an access hole for the doe.

I would put them on the outside of the pen, and make the goats stick their heads through to drink (that should keep the babies from falling into them, too). But I would also fasten the stopper somehow. I've seen them with 'chains' that you used to pull them up (old sinks -- don't know if you could even buy that kind now). I'm thinking that if the goats drank all the water, they might then pull the stopper out and play with it (probably would do exactly that, LOL!) and would likely lose it, causing all kinds of frustration on your part. But I do think the sinks are a good idea. I may look for one and try that myself.

I was thinking of leaving the drain hole unstoppered and stoppering the end of the drain pipe that is over the bucket. I figured having something n the bottom of the sink would be too much for them to resist. Maybe a pvc end cap sort of thing. If I get it all up and going in a bit , I'll do pics.
