Very pregnant Nigie question

I have a verey pretty, very petite, very sweet little Nigie doe that is pg for the first time. She is due on the 30th of this month.

I think she must have quads in there. She is bulging extremely far out on both sides and is loaded with "pointy" feeling bumps. The buck she was bred to was one of quints, himself...

Today it was in the high 80s. Up until today she has been fairly energetic---making us laugh because when she runs up to the grain trough she basically is doing an extremely fast waddle, which is very amusing to watch. Her appetite has been good, and she has been fairly active. But today, she just hung out in the barn for the most part.

I did notice that yesterday she had jumped into the big, round green hay basket. But she couldn't get her big, fat, pregnant self out, ended up tipping it over instead while she hauled her stomach over the edge.

But today, she was staying in the shade in the corner of the barn. I had my son bring some water right to her, she is making little noises, too.

As of tomorrow, she will be 5 days from her due date. Do you think the babies will be okay if she has them tomorrow? I don't know if she is or isn't getting ready to kid, or is just uncomfortable. Her ligaments aren't that loose, but most of the goats that have kidded for me haven't been that loose until almost the point of birth. Only my Nubian's were just GONE about 12 hours before she kidded.

She is one of my favorites, and she was bred to my friend's really gorgeous champion buck. A blue-eyed light chamoisee. She is light gold.

It's sad to say, but I really do care more about certain goats. I hope she and her babies will be okay.

She'll be fine! 145-155 is normal. Please keep us posted, as we are new to Nigerian does and want to see the babies!

This just in---or rather, just out!

Blossom has just presented me with two ugly ducklings, I mean bucklings.

Neither one of them has their daddy's blue eyes. They are mostly black in a blotchy sort of way, with a blotchy white star on their heads and speckly white areas. Some tan on the legs. Maybe they'll be cuter in broad daylight.

They did inherit one thing from their mama. They make a lot of noise. I woke up my son to help me get them cleaned off and get their cords iodined (needed him to hold the flashlight). When I picked each one up they yelled like I was a gypsy and they were being kidnapped. Sort of like having one of those air horns go off right next to your ear. My son said, "They're her kids, all right!"

All I can say is, if that was how she looked pregnant with twins, I am sincerely happy she did not have triplets or quads!!! She was IMMENSE.

I will probably wether them and sell them as pets.

I am very disappointed, though. I would have liked at least one doeling. The daddy and the mama are just SOOOO pretty! These guys, not so much. Like I sid, maybe in the light of day? I really had a lot of eager anticipation for this kidding.

I woke my daughter up (10 yo) to tell her Blossom had two boys. She grumped. "Boys. Great. Now we have to get rid of them." She wants to keep all the boys, she just loves them all.

Well, they still aren't what you would expect from 2 such beautiful animals. Blossom is right back to her gorgeous pre-pregnant self! If she was a human, she would be one of the beautiful people.

They look like what might happen if a 5 yo with issues colored in some pictures of goats in a therapy room. They are black, white and tan, all mixed up in a very odd fashion. The bigger one has brown eyes and wattles, and it looks like the smaller one has blue eyes.

They'll make a cute pair of wethers, since they match very well in coloring. DD is already at me to keep the smaller one.

Bleah. I realy wanted at least one doeling from this match.

Okay, it's official.

Even dd thinks they are "not that cute." Coming from her, that is pretty strong!

Hopefully there will someone out there who like their looks! Some people find a certain kind of ugly "cute"!

Yup, I've got to get that cable asap.

I just went out to check again, and they are still ugly! LOL!

Really, the bigger one with the wattles is the worst. The white is on is head and the wattles and it give the illusion that his head is too big. They are so ugly that it IS cute.

Right now, they and their mom are panting from the heat. I can't wait until it rains and breaks this hot spell.

I was very impressed with the way my other goats in that pen and barn left Blossom in the barn w/o bothering her or the babies. They really gave her space, I was kind of expecting they would be their usual nosy selves.

Even today, they do not bother the babies. Blossom is quite the doting mother. She is a total cutie.

Here is a picture of Blossom when she was littler than she is now...

Personaly I really think you are being very harsh on the little guys. You need to enjoy them for what they are. As long as they are healthy and the Dam is doing well, that in it's self should be enough>>>>
We all get plenty of Bucks my first two kiddings gave me twin Bucklings and Trip Buckings, was I disappointed....Well sure I was, but never called them ugly or made a big thing about it. :baby04:

It's tough when you're disappointed in kids, especially if you're high on the matchup of two beautiful goats. Just goes to show you never know what you'll get and prettyXpretty doesn't always equal pretty. That's why breeding is such an experiment in finding the crosses that work well. And join the club of breeders disappointed in no does. I do hope, as is often the case, as your kids grow they will improve. I'm very interested to see photos of the color you describe.

Well, if you like pictures colored in by 3 yos who like to switch crayons a lot, and don't fill in all the spaces...these are your goats! LOL!
moonspinner, I did get more does than bucks this year---so far. Like you said, this has been a learning experience about breeding prettyXpretty! Next time I'll breed her to an ugly boy, if I can find one! LOL!

The only breedings that turned out pretty much the way I expected them too were the girls I bred to my very pretty Alpine buck, Cedar. Cedar is a pure chamoisee---a medium tan who looks like he was outlined all over in a black Sharpie. I bred him to my Nubian crosses that were a redder colored chamoisee, although they do have white ears, noses and "stars". (The LaMancha/Nubian had little white elf ears!) Oh, these little girls are GORGEOUS! One has elf ears, one has airplane ears, and one has Alpine ears! All chamoisees, except one of them has a white break on her side, and one has a white "glove" on her foot.

Just beautiful! So far, Cedar has thrown ONLY girls! My other Alpine buck has given me slightly more girls than boys. I'm selling him though, he throws BIG babies, and we just like Cedar better. The other Alpine buck, Kronk, is the one whose dam milked 20 lbs a day at peak in her first freshening. I've got those bloodlines now, in a few doelings, so I am happy.

Blossom could not have possibly thrown ugly babies. I mean look at her. She is the beauty.

It must be that they are going to metamorphisize into beautiful young men.

Laurie

Now we need pictures Jill. Congrats.

That's what I thought, Laurie! And the buck she was bred to is gorgeous!

I did take pictures, just have to get the cable for the computer.

Maybe I'll be able to post tonight.

Well, dh and my oldest son think they are cute. They are looking a little better as they get older.

I heard that "kid in trouble" yell yesterday. Dashed madly up the hill. One of them had tried to jump through the combo panel into the bucks' pen. Got stuck of course---not too fat to jump through, they are teeny, just couldn't make it all the way and was crying to be pulled through.

The bucks were so nice to him---didn't do anything but sniff at him and walk away.
