Weaning

Sold a kid last night that was still nursing. The kid was 3 months old. Will mom's milk production cease or do I need to milk her a little? Thanks, Ken

Keep an eye on her udder. Check it once or twice a day to see if it starts to feel hot (this can be a sign of infection), but for the most part just leave her be.
Being full is what triggers the body to stop producing milk. If you remove too much milk, it confuses the signals.
Twyla's single buck was removed from her around 12 weeks. I kept an eye on the udder and felt it once a day. She finally did dry off nicely.

You'll get lots of opinions, many people dry their does off differently, but if you stop milking her, she will stop producing.

If she gets super-engorged, you can take a little out to make her more comfortable, but the pressure is what signals her body to stop making milk - it tells her no one is taking it.
