Lost one

We lost one of our twins over night. She was fine yesterday and last evening she was nursing, but this morning she was on the floor sprawled out. We tried to keep her alive and gave her "B" complex and were trying to feed her by tube, but it was to no avail.

We are saddened by her passing as it our first goat to pass untimely, and no death at a days old age is easy.

Most likely was an infection but we really don't know. We should have had them isolated. I don't think she was injured but it is one explaination for the timing. We are making changes as we learn this "Hobby". Next to be done is removal of the wooden floor and relace it with cement. An area for new kids will be created at that time. We also need to upgade/ create a "kit" for taking care of sick animals. We have a setup now, but it needs so much more that It will require a new control storage method. I am also going to be constructing a fold up table similar tot the changing tables in public restrooms for children, for small animal care in the goat house. This has motivated me to do better by our animals. We are doing what we know to do , as much as a new commer can, and the learning curve is sharply inclining right now. EVery day we learn and experience and learn from that experience. Ok I am done.. I needed to get tthat out. thanks

I'm sorry to hear you lost her. Young kids can die from dietary problems in just hours so I would not discount that possibility.

You are right that sometimes they just cannot be saved.

Sorry to hear about your kid. How old?
If you read these boards long enough you'll see it is not as uncommon as we would hope. Try not to get too discouraged. Even very experienced goat keepers lose goats. ...

5 days

5 days old , everyone else is doing fine, it was just her. I normally don't do any work on sunday , but tommarrp I am going to make her a Little box to be burried in, under some pine trees, faraway from the business end of the property so to speak. We aren't a business nor will we ever be one. The Left over that can not be stored, or bartered with is given to church members.
