bald spot on knees

O.K., here's another one for my doe Lilly.....

I should say that the two does we just bought both have bald spots on their knees....they are three and seven years old.

Now it seems Lilly is getting bald spots on her knees, too. Are they teaching her some kneeling/rubbing habit? Is this a sign of something?

She's the one with the swelling on her jaw--not hard. It's like she has a big swollen gland or something. And she's the one who just had a miscarriage. And......she's the one who just ended treatment for cocci.

Lord help me..................

Anyone?

Dee

Yes, bald spots on the knees are quite normal, nothing to worry about.

Yup. They all have them -- it's the way they lie down.

Well, allrighty.....did I mention I am overanalyzing everything these days? :baby04:

I am very relieved. Thank you.

Interestingly, not all my goats have them. I guess some lay differently than others. The two new girls came with them, but I never noticed Lilly's before.

Lightning does not have bald spots on her knees.

I'm just thankful bald knees aren't some symptom of some horrible disease! At least one of the things about her is normal right now.

Now I can go back to obscessng over her abscess/swollen neck spot. Do goats get swollen glands? That's just what it feels like.

Anyway......thanks for the heads up about knees!

Dee

They will get calluses on their lower breastplate, too - also from the way they lie down. That one freaked me out the first time, too - as did the "no top teeth" thing. Maybe we should write a new book about all the silly, basic things that are not in the existing goat books.

And since cows hardly ever yawn, some people have cows for years and never know that they don't have top teeth either.

Oh yes, they have full sets of top and bottom molars....don't believe me?? Just let your fingers slide just a little too far back in a kids mouth...and if you think kids are bad, try calves, you can lose a finger in there!

Another one we get asked is...Yes bucks have teats.

I know the first time I went to a park as a kid and saw this duck trying to kill this other duck by drowning it!!! It was on it's back trying to dunk her head under the water...of course now I know he was breeding her But I was very very upset with all this and they were too far out in the pond for my rocks I was throwing at this murderer to hit! I was raised on a horse farm in San Diego, around horses and cattle, so it wasn't like I was a city kid...just never saw ducks breed before vicki

LOL!! My mom(who was a city kid) tells the story of the time right after her family moved to the country. She was 17 and was going with her Dad to town. There was a pasture full of beef cows next to the road and one was on top of another! She asked my Grandpa, "Dad, what are they.......oh". and sunk back in her seat with her face on fire. She figured it out.....
