Kansas Tornado

I'm feeling kind of guilty for not doing this earlier. If any goat people in Kansas need anything and can access HT, please list it here. Maybe we can get some things together and send a care package or two or hundreds!

Thanks for doing this Ruth. Did you see the boer goats on top of the rubble? Someone has goats in that devastation.

I don't personally know of anyone in need however, if you're interested in making a donation you can do so by one of the following methods.

1). If you live where there are 'Dillons' grocery stores (part of the Kroger family) you can give a monetary donation when you check out.

2). You can donate to the American Red Cross and specify that you want your donation to go to the Greensburg Disaster Relief fund.

3). You can donate to the Salvation Army.

4). You can also donate to the United Way of the Plains. Checks should be made payable to United Way Greensburg Disaster Fund & mailed to:

United Way of the Plains
245 N. Water St.
Wichita, KS 67202.

I called the Pratt Animal Shelter inquiring about a fund or location where individuals could donate for the care/feed/vet care of rescued animals however it appears at this time that there's nothing set up for this. It appears that the state may be sending the animals rescued thus far to Dodge City. (Which he was NOT happy about.) The individual I spoke with said that there is not a whole lot of livestock, that he's aware of, being found it is primarily pets and that they're being housed at the animal shelter & veterinary offices around Pratt. There was talk of some livestock being taken to the Pratt Livestock Auction facilities however he could not confirm that. So, I called the Auction barn and was told that they have offered to house large stock - horses & cattle, but that they have not yet received any animals. She said that if anyone was wanting to donate for the care of the animals that it would have to be done through the Red Cross although she didn't know if they have anything specifically set up for this. So...I called them, too. Nothing set up at this time. However, I was directed to one of the local clinics where animals were being taken. THEY actually ARE taking donations! (woo hoo!) They have several severely injured animals that they've been providing care for as well as kenneling those non-injured animals so I will list their information and if anyone is interested in sending a donation to help offset the costs they certainly would be welcome. The info. is as follows:

High Plains Veterinary Services
1503 E. 1st St.
Pratt, KS 67124

The other Vet that I was able to contact said that they were taking donations however they were going to forward those donations to the Pratt County Humane Society. So, rather than send them to the Vet, donations should go directly to the HS if anyone was interested in donating. Their address is:

Pratt County Humane Society
1402 W. 1st St.
Pratt, KS 67124

I know that's not exactly what y'all were asking with this thread but I thought I'd provide the info. just in case.

Thanks for the info....

I'm looking specifically to help goat owners, but others may want the information. I'm somewhat disillusioned with the Red Cross, however, ever since 9/11.
