sign of heat in supposedly bred doe?

O.K., so I thought Lilly, our one year old Nubian was bred 6 weeks ago. We saw the deed....I figured it was a done deal.

Three weeks later I did not see any heat signs. I looked day 18-21. Another three weeks later (two days ago) I looked after seeing a pic. here of a hopefully pregnant goat's vulva.....indeed Lilly's looked different than our other girls...like in the pic. I saw here. Great! But today when brushing her I noticed she was "wet" back there. Just like she was in heat. What?

This is exactly six weeks after breeding. Is wetness back there a for sure sign of being in heat and only being in heat? There is no buck around now so I can't tell if she is acting like she was before.

I'm so upset. I though for sure she was pregnant!

Do you have a buck around? If she's in heat he'll be goin' bonkers around her. I'm new to goats, and rarely could tell heats until I got a buck, and the doe seemed to have a lot more obvious signs, like redness, wetness, and tail flagging.

Nope, no buck around.

Although our neighbors do have Nubians....I don't know if they ever got the buck they were talking about getting. If she is wet today is it too late tomorrow to try to breed her again?

Do pregnant does ever have discharge?

Can't I just take out one of my EPT's and stick it under her pee?!!! :baby04:

I'm up late b/c Naomi has all the signs of kidding soon. She's really stringing me along! Anyway, no you can't use a human preg test on a goat, though that would be so convenient . . . in thinking about this (and I am no goat expert), you just noted wetness on the vulva but no other signs of possible heat.

If you are dying to know one way or another, get a blood test. At least you'll know for sure, and can then make your plans.

Some does will do that. I bred a goat of mine and later she showed signs of heat so I took her back to the buck and she like to the beat the living daylights out of him so she is bred. I have heard and now seen does that have been bred still act like they have came back in heat when actally they aren't. Only other thing you can do is wait and see if she is bred.

This can't be good. This morning when I checked on Lilly I saw that her tail was even more wet.....and it was wet on one side of her fur further down. It looked reddish. And...there was a red what looked like a string hanging out. About 3 inches long. I looked all around the pen and didn't find anything out of the ordinary......although I don't know if I would at six weeks.

If she is miscarrying what should I expect at 6 weeks along? She seems fine otherwise. Am I correct in thinking that if there is ANY blood she is miscarrying?

I had a doe miscarry at about 3 months along (last year). I had no idea that she was bred. That was about 7 " long. I don't quite know how to explain it. it has all the legs and looked like a baby just really small.
