Our first babies of the year!

My pygmy doe Bianca was due tomorrow(after careful readjusting of the due date that I thought was last thursday....didn't calculate it well!) She had two beautiful does about an hour ago.

I actually had to intervene with this one. She had no problems last year or any time before, but the first doe seemed too large for her to get out on her own. All that was presenting was one hoof. So, put on my gloves and had myself a look-see and found the other hoof and the head in the proper position. Was able to get both hooves out and pulled very slightly with the next push. Then used one had to pull hooves and the other to help get the head through. After that she came right out. Her sister presented in the clasic diving position with no problems at all. I tell ya, it's not easy doing all this while your doe is screaming! It was quite stressful but thank goodness I do well under stress! The picture isn't the greatest, but mom won't quit licking them long enough for me to get a good picture!!!!

I just want to thank all those that post problems and answers. For those that have never had to go through it, we learn from everyone else. Thanks!!!

YAY! GREAT JOB!

You should be very proud of your role, and her tenacity in wanting to lick them is a very positive sign of a great mother.

Aww! Congratulations on your successful midwifery, and on two doelings! Are you going to be milking the mother?

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has made that mistake...

Well, so long as you figure out the sex before breeding time, it's all good.
