retained afterbirth

I have 2 nannies(boer) that had twins each yesterday(4/22) and have not lost their afterbirth, i haven't ever had a problem with that before, can i give them 1cc oxytocin? will it hurt the milk for the babies? or should i just wait to see if they loose it (one had her tiwns at 1:30p and the other at 3:30p) I am new to this site, it's great lots of useful info!!!this is also my first post, hooorrraayyy!!! I have learned a lot of things on here so far, and i still have a lot to learn! (I made this post before, but when i went to make a change , it just dissapeared, "poof", i don't know where it went) thanks so much!!!

Unless youve watched them the entire time since the births, it's possible they passed and ate them. Also if there is a lot of straw bedding, they can be hidden under it. My Maremmas are good at finding them in the straw
Drug Name:

Oxytocin- 20 USP units pre ml - Rx

For treatment of:
Causes uterine contractions and milk let down.
Goat dose: SQ Injection
For expelling retained afterbirth - 1 ml given within 24 hrs. after freshening
Can be used in small amounts to stimulate milk letdown - 1/10 to 3/10 ml
Milk withholding time: none

Is there any afterbirth stuff dangling from her rear end? If not, then they dropped their afterbirth, I wouldn’t worry. The odds of both does not discharging their after birth, slim in my opinion. Bearfoots right, it most likely got eaten; it's an instinct to prevent predators from smelling the newborn kid.

There is a little bit of stuff, on one and just found the other under some straw...is it usual to have some discharge four days later? not yucky discharge, just a little tiny bit of blood/mucus...just curious, and after i posted that, went back into the barn and 2 more nannies had babies...almost done!!!!

Yes, they can have discharge for up to a month, off and on. That is normal, as you just described.

Sometimes, my first-timers don't expell the afterbirth quickly or cleanly. I never worry about it, and they seem to do fine. I would worry, though, if they started to get rank smelling with a rotten flesh odor.

hey its very very ok to be paranoid. I'm the same way every single year and I've been through enough kiddings i shouldnt be! Lol. Welcome to the site! My two does that dam raise their kids ate the afterbirth, well not exactly ate it all but started to and then I stripped out the stalls and removed it. My other doe Hannah didnt eat her afterbirth, she just dropped it in the stall and layed down. I took her kids away though to raise on CAE Prevention. So some does eat the afterbirth and some dont.
