Im going to spend the rest of my life milking....

Before I got my saanen and my nubian I was going to get a jersey.....My husband came home and informed me that he has reserved a jersey granted it will take awhile until she is born and I have no clue as to what she will cost...Looks like Im going to have to buy another refridgerator just to have enough room for the milk....

Wow, talk about trial by fire. You'll be fine, and you'll love it.

we have an old jersey she make a great pet and she'll feed any baby that comes along
which is mighty handy if you have bottle calves or bottle goats shes earned the name
momma cow if it hadn't been for her we probably would not have been able to save as many babies here as we have(alot of people around here wont mess with bottle babies
so they'll bring them to me) lilly

You'll have plenty of time to get used to the idea of milking a cow and plenty of time to practice on the goats......if the hiefer isn't even born yet, you'll have all the time till shes born, then it will take two years of raising her before she will produce a calf for you and need to be milked. So your looking at 2-1/2 years into the future at least. Its worth it....we LOVE our Jerseys!!

Emily is right, figure 2.5 years before a dairy cow will freshen the first time! Lots of learning time!!
