What a Day!

Yesterday morning, I went out to feed and milk and one of my boer does had kidded. She didn't clean off the doe kid and it was dead. The buck kid was up and playing. Now mama doesn't want to feed him, but they're penned together so she hasn't a lot of choice.

Another boer doe then began kidding, and even though she was huge, she had a single buck kid.

All are well.

Then...

Last evening little Zoe began labor. After a few hours, I finally felt I had to intervene. I could not get the kid out. Called the vet. We determined she might need a c-section. I put her in the truck and met him at the hospital. He tried to deliver the kid, but couldn't. He was huge. Did a c-section. AMAZINGLY...the kid is fine. Mama and baby doing well...but both are very tired. So am I.

Man you did have a heck of a day. I'm sorry for the loss of the doe kid, but glad all is well with the rest of the gang and that the c-section went well.

Wow! Yesterday sure must have been a trying day. So sorry the doeling didn't make it, but at least you have happy endings for the rest of the problems. It seems that at kidding season, you either have no problems at all, or problems with everybody!

See you Saturday!

WOW, Ruth. Hope all is better this morning. How are mom and baby doing now? What about the one that didn't want her baby, is she accepting him now? Good luck

Well....they're all still alive and bouncing around, except c-section mom, of course. I'm guessing they're all eating when I'm not looking.
