Baby goat sweater

Well one of the goats we just got is a week old nubian doeling. Its cold and snowing here and she seemed a bit cold(she has a five week old nubian buckling to snuggle with) so we made her a little goat sweater. No sewing involved, we cut the the leg off a pair of sweats and cut holes for her front legs and slipped it on over her head. She seems much more comfortable now. Anyway I thought I would show a pic of it for anyone needing a quick easy baby goat blanket.

Our doe is going to probably have hers today. Its snowing like crazy and even thundering a little. She has pawed several areas of her stall, she is actually staying laying down when we walk in there(she usually leaps up when we get to the door) and I have been told that these are some of the signs. So we trudge out in the snow every hour on the hour to check her. Also early this morning she arched her back and let out a kind high pitched baaa. But she hasn't done it since so I don't know if that means anything.

Thumbs up

That's a great idea!! I had used a dog sweater for my fainter buck baby after he was born.

It's been raining all day here in NE OK. That's OK...We need the rain. The cold-----not so much.

OOoh - I'm a sucker for pink noses - she is adorable. And the sweater is very Flashdance. I like it.

I cut the sleeve off of an old sweatshirt for Emily last week - but she's already outgrown it. She's old enough now to go nekkid LOL

I saved that sweatshirt specially when we moved, thinking of goat coats!

We are a resourceful bunch - I can't think how many times I've picked something up at the local charity shop for the goats. Used towels, a baby monitor (which they promptly chewed all the wires off - grrrr. Now it only picks up some stupid radio gameshow)

The sweatpant sweater is a great idea. I used the sleeves of a large thermal shirt for 'sweaters' when my babies first got here (from lovely, green temperate Oregon). Of course they outgrew them in less than a week but our weather has been mostly kind to us since. Seems like a pant leg like you use would hold up better to washings. Thanks for sharing!

Your welcome. You could also pick up the 2x size sweat pants from the thrift store or garage sales and make sweaters for bigger babies.

Those are great ideas! However, I have Pygmies and those "sweaters" are way too big for a 2-4 pound baby. I use socks. Usually knee socks or tube socks. They work great for the little ones. The knee socks are usually on clearance for $.50 this time of year and I stock up for the next year.

Or infant sized sweats if you run across them at a garage sale or something. Those might be small enough.
